best nites ive had were on my own as the dogs are in tune no leashes no strange dogs to gee them up , sometimes if you go were ever ,then nobody to worry about,and alot quiter to sneak up on game , one man in tune makes less niose than untuned bag cariers who dont no the land ,my perfect nite is getting dropped of and making it back to a destinaition piont etc had some great nites , some times its good having a helper as somenites its a slog , mackay internets not realy for people who have been into poaching hunting for last 30 years , as its got to many messers , at times but its a laugh ,as for photos never realy thought of wanting to put photos up ,better for invited guests , all the best mackay

ive done most of my hunting on my own or with one or two close friends , ive never been one to go out with just anyone or to compete with them although i will say when there is strange dogs out with me my dogs seem to be on there toes and perform better must be a bit competition or them

I think maybe it,s a generation thing , too many nowadays equate hunting with lamping , catching big numbers , having super dogs .

They don,t have the hour at dawn and dusk experience , the patience that working with ferrets teachs you , they have no idea about the habits of thier quarry , they don,t recognise trees or crops they pass every day . in short , they just don,t get how wonderful it is to be out with a dog in surroundings you understand and appreciate .

Every trip out for me is an almost spiritual experience that fills me with a sense of wellbeing , I pity those that will never get this.

Very well said, catching has never been the be all and end all for me, I've always loved the countryside and what it holds, I love the rivers and sea too and your right it does make you feel instantly relaxed and happier once your out and walking some nice land, catching is then a bonus

Always hunted alone,never had any big name dogs or any big name lines,to be honest looking at a lot of the posts on here my dogs would have more then likely been culled.The only job I asked my dogs to do was to get me out and enjoy the countryside and whatever we got was a bonus.Yes I did the numbers thing when the job I was asked to do called for numbers to be done , I think numbers are a young persons thing it's only as you get older that you realise that it aint always about that.

After reading many varied and interesting posts of hunting exploits it comes across to me that very few people hunt alone nowadays and rather than being a one man solitary venture has become more of a social pastime with some perverse point to prove. What also with digital cameras, camcorders and all the latest technology the dog and ferret play second fiddle to the expectations of the digital world. Is hunting in the true sense of the word (when we walked all day in pursuit of game and often caught none) gone. The internet has launched us into new realms where pretenders can make outlandish claims, but what of the days of our youth, no locators, no fancy names, no profit in hunting just hunting for the love of it. When we hunted purely for the love of hunting, had a respect for our chosen quarry and the countryside as a whole when we could walk home with a rabbit or two, or a pheasant and look at our charges with pride and not lambast them for the fact they could not kill three from three hares or a fox single handed happy and content with our dogs accepting their capabilities and failings. Is it just me or has hunting become a bit of a competition, the enjoyment and bond between man and dog seems to have been replaced by a new type of hunter, one who must have results and expects robotic qualities from his dogs whilst missing the enjoyment of the actual hunt.

There is nothing wrong with going out 2, or 3 off you.What happens your out alone fall smash the head.Who is there to help you no one.Yes people bring phones but when you have cracked your head open and cant move a phone is no use.You may hope the dam or sire off your lucher is lassie and goes and gets help.Cant beat a good walk over the mountain getting your thoughts together and catch bit game at the same time but the way things are now days l would never go on my own again.Anything can happen and l rather someone is there that can help you then you been found days later or worse

as far as coursing goes the days of going in big gangs are gone there really clamping down on it now and using joe publics eyes and ears as one of there main resources

I do both, I must admit it's a must to go alone a few times a week to get more runs for the dog to push her further I feel in a group you don't get enough work for them, and you don't have as fit a dog

l tell you a story about 17 years ago l want for lamp by myself local just up the hill from my house 20min walk with car battery on my back and my mates lamp just bought out off Argos.This lamp was about size off a big frying pan no joke and would light upa side off a mountain no prop.Any how me dog sit off there about 15 odd fields to do with a wee farm at the end.Reached the farm had few rabbits. When out dark heard this voice off old fella shouting wee boy wee boy.No joke 15 years off age pitch back and there fella trying find me as you can image l was shitting bricks. Heard the voice again wee boy wee boy so let go off the dog so l could move bit fast was getting over fence and a hand land on my should with this fella saying wee boy.At the stage l turn around and put the lamp right across the fella head fell over the fence got the car battery off my back and was a way l think l took over the dog at one stage.Could have been farmer telling me just stay out fields with cows and horses.Then again could have been some fella looking too play hide the ferret so f**k that.
