RossM 8,148 Posted December 29, 2011 Report Share Posted December 29, 2011 With it blowing a gale and being a bit drizzly I decided to take my old bitch a walk whilst the missus watched telly, didn't plan on going out so with the motor low on fuel it was a short 10 minute walk to a nice grass field that seems to hold a few rabbits in the daytime so thought it would be half decent on the lamp, The gateway is halfway along this field so I chose my route and turned right and headed to the far corner although wind wouldn't be in my favour, flicked lamp on and picked up a few eyes, picked a squatter and headed in it's direction, it wasn't for lifting so I slipped bitch and she stalked right up to it and waited for it to get up, well it didn't and she had to nose it to get a reaction, and the reaction was a 3 foot flip in the air and she caught it before it touched the ground. 1 in the bag headed along the bottom of the field and saw another candidate for a run, this slip was a bit longer as the bunny was moving before I could get between it and cover bitch run out the beam and picked it up from the cover side without breaking into more than a saunter, so that was number two, nothing else in the corner so make my way up diagonally, 3 sets of ruby eyes 2 are off and moving quick and the other is creeping along, bitch is slipped and the bunny ups a gear runs for cover bitch puts in a turn and runs it along fence line, turns it back into the field and scoops it up without changing speed or direction, rabbit number 3! Up into top corner and make way back to gateway and get the chance half chance of a run, bitch does well and pressures rabbit away from cover taking run into field, then the rabbit jinks around takes the piss abit and motors for cover, bitch drops a gear powers up and puts in a kamikaze strike, does 3 full rolls but keeps hold of her prize 5 yards from cover, great take! She's holding her leg up a bit so call it a night, get her home check her over, same leg she's been having bother with, seems to give her bother every so often, run her then she limps for a day then is fine again! don't think it will ever be 100% but she's 8 on her next birthday and I'm happy just to give her a night out once a week if it's just to keep her happy, 1 Quote Link to post

And I've decided that she'll tell me when she doesn't want to come, it small bag, but not bad considering the severe lack about, 4 from 4 slips and if she hadn't hurt her leg there was another 3 fields I wanted to have a look in, I probably could have run her all night as she's the sort to mask it if she's out but that would have been selfish and unacceptable on my part, and she'd be paying the price today lying around in her bed! As it happens she quite spritely today, expected to come home and her limp up to me but I got a lick to the eyeball for my troubles! Quote Link to post
