PhilProp 51
Hi there i have read a few posts on here n im suprised how many ppl class lamping dogs and daytime dogs as two differant kinds. I dont know if its jus me but my dogs have always been used for daytime and lamping if they couldnt do both then they wernt for me. But i just thought that was the normal thing i av never heard of anyone classing daytime n lamping differant 1 Quote Link to post
Ideation 8,216
Some folk live in towns / cities and only really get the chance to go hunting in the nights, so their dogs are not really experianced with daytime hunting i guess. And without experiance etc, no dog can get that good . . . . just my take on it. Quote Link to post
fitchet 788
in my opinion lamping rabbits and hares on the right ground most mutts of all shapes and size can do it . it takes a better dog to kill consistentley in the daytime be it rabbits or hares. Quote Link to post
darbo 4,776
in my area there was a mixture of both. some people just lamped. some just ran hares. some did both. when i was well into the running dogs. i lamped, ran hares and used them bushing with a terrier. as did quite a few people. PhilProp 51
Yes darbo thats same as me i lamp anything n run anything wether it b day or nite. N i dont mean anything like i dont giv a shit n im rekless before anyone says owt its jus a figure of speech. I also use my dog ferreting n even with my shotgun the odd time i go out. I always find it a plus [bANNED TEXT] one bird or summit aint quiet dead n on the floor n runs off there aint much that can outrun a lurcher. But maybe i jus do too much or expect too much. This is how i av always had n used my dogs n wudnt change it at all. Also [bANNED TEXT] i go with me mate whos big into guns i take me dog lamping to retrive or fetch anyshot game n also u guarentee if theres no dog ud see summit run so if that cums up then we gt both aspects covered lol. Romany 1,065
If a dog cant do both you have a problem..lamping is often classed by some as easy, and if this is the case, what easier hunting could there be as bolting rabbits with ferrets to a dog..had an outstanding lamping bitch, call her a lamping bitch because thats all I did with her, got an invite to bolt rabbits with ferrets to the dogs, she got 30 in one day.. as its already been said, a good dog should be able to do both..slight alteration, any DECENT dog should be able to do both Quote Link to post
Millet 4,497
For me it's all down to wether you hold a full time job...if you do have a job most of the time out during the winter is in darkness with the lamp..and only the odd weekend during the day.. Quote Link to post

The last part you wrote is spot on works the same the other way around for daytime lads who don't lamp much dont just become good lamp dogs. Quote Link to post
