had a black rabbit last night never had one on the lamp before the old dog wouldnt pick them up at night she must of thought they were a cat anyone else seeing many ?

its to do with the melanistic gene.This is more common in some animals than others. For example, in jaguars they are common enough to have their own name (black panthers)

 

also occurs in

owls

penguins

tree rats

wolves

and a few more

years ago keepers used to put coloured rabbits among wild ones as they could see if anyone was somewhere they should not be don't know if they can do it now. keep a eye out for ginger ones as well had one a while ago with the ferrets

mainly the reason there are black and coloured rabbits in the country useually around estates is because the same simple reason you see white pheasents is because the game keepers used to use them as markers to see if there was any poachers coming on to the land

ive had black and whites and gingers and pure blacks with the ferret seem to be alot stronger and hit the net harder

had plenty black ones no big deal about hear had a few white and ginger ones but not so often

ive had loads of black rabbits, i had a white one a couple of seasons ago with ginger ears and a ginger patch on the back of his neck.
