i have got the exact same problem it's as though the magnetic reed has seized up inside and wont turn on,like you i also put a fresh set of batteries in but i suppose i could always send it back to deben so they can charge me the same price as a new one for repairing it!!!!

doesnt bother me that much becaus i always take batterys out straight away anyway, but at the end of the day it shouldnt just stop working, theres still loads of mk1 collars going strong and used regularly, they got made properly not just a quick money making scheme like the mk3ms
