for me to kil game a big gun would be away to easy after thirty years of hunting you get to know every bit of cover and areas to get game so a big gun silencer would be pure profit and in a few years there would be a lot less game , a gun to me is only good for places its suited for , not as a main sporting tool ,i can see a guns uses and a bag would double in the [bANNED TEXT] hands, but were would it end ,im glad i have no guns a sits so easy to kill game etc

for a start i have shot guns as well as dogs. i use dogs to flush to guns sometimes when needed. killing range of 30 - 40 yds depending on type of quarry or birds etc. i have no issues with rifle men

Guns are for failed dog men hahahahaha

Any dickhead can wipe fox's out with rifles takes skill with a dog to do it properly.   Ps guns are for gays

I've been out once and spent some time squeaking in a red but it wouldn't come close enough to slip so I moved on. Not 15 minutes later a shot went off and I knew it was the fox I had brought in. I met up with the shooters and had a chat. I wasn't pleased they got the fox but I didn't own the rights to it. What I was more bothered about was it being left in the open on a golf course for all to see.

That's the thing with some shooters(not them all)there quick to pull the trigger but not too quick to put one foot in front of the other and go collect the dead

Before you all jump on screaming av seen shot bunnys/hares and fox laid in the field

Well its sgc/fac next for me ....pal just got his and got shit loads of permission through it,, BUT HE DONT HAVE DOGS and most of his permission have give him open ticket to do what he likes ferrets, dogs etc..funny that aint it,, i have struggled and struggled for permission with dogs ferrets, and its been fkn hard work i do think shooters are treated differently by land owners lurchers seem to have such a bad name i have been to places introoduced myself respectfully and been polite only to be told to fk off as soon as mention dogs,,, yet my mate goes cap in hand for shootin and gets it all on a plate so yep next week i shall be completing the foms and paying me pennies seems like a no brainer to me like! ATB best for 2012 boys!! (oops and girls) Happy hunting.

Hi folks,

As the apparent animosity from dogmen towards shooters keeps rearing it's ugly head in here, I am curious to know how many others have rifles/guns as well as dogs.

I know one other really good chap from here who shoots as well as hunts with his dogs but are there any others?

And why the bad blood from dogmen towards shooters anyway?

Personally, I argue for all field sports and vote in favour of all field sports- united we stand, after all.

Any input welcome!

Cheers

Duncan.

Duncan mate, at the end of the day it's each to their own, you will probably find that most people with running dogs

have at sometimes in their lives had a gun of some sort,

Be it an air rifle /pistol,

I know most of my mates did.

i think shooting opens doors , if some farmers see me with dogs they have a hearta tac lol had one, one day say you can shoot ferret hares as long as you leave my prescuios deer as he rented stalkers days to rich people from abroad , same guy would killanything that had ahooke beak or a set of teeth ,but he was very protective over silly poxy deer , ye a gun does open doors , if your behaved with it , i mind one farmer says shoot the vermin i says ye he was behind me i shot a cock phesi of tree he never noticed as i was on drivers side lol, i think if i had went the way of the gun i would had been a hunting guide keeper or something ,but had to much mischief in me

having guns does open door and it can keep them open, there are things that carnt realistically be controled by dogs alone and by not having the right tools for the job your leaving the door open for someone else who can do the same as you do but without a running dog or terrier. sentiments fine i love nothing more than watching a good dog work but to be able to offer a good enough service to a land owner just owning a good dog is not enough and sooner or later someone with all the tools for the job will be taking over your role

Everything has its place but the best team will have a dog and a gun in this day and age! I can remember once a friend of mine shot a fox when we was on the way back home from a days digging. We was on his quad and the fox was hit and ran straight into the woods, so we drove over and couldnt find her so let my old lurcher Bitch out the box on the trailer and she found her in some thick, tall braken still alive but only just so we dispatched her. So to me if your shooting you should have a dog, or is this the law anyway?? Both have there problems on there own and i would much rather see a good dog kill a fox than a bad shot and see it run off to die a slow death but also i would prefer a good shot kill one than a bad dog as i hate seeing it getting dragged out! get it done and move on
