bullyx 10
Not sure weather this is the right place to put this. But what im wondering would a spaniel be ideal for rabbiting / ferreting aswell as retriving Quote Link to post
carpentermark 21
No mate, they're not quick enough to catch bolters. Quote Link to post
Francentey-FTB 29
I disagree, I have a spaniel bitch who i gave a little to much free reign too, so was a failure as a well trained gundog as she has too much go, she does it all, a proper all rounder, mark, catch bolters, hunt like the best of them, and will work all quarry, She isnt the fastest, and if it was a numbers game she wouldnt be the perfect choice a small lurcher would be... but she suits me, and not all spaniels are slow, my dog is unreal he's really athletic with good legs, very quick dog, but he is used for shooting, and beating. poacher3161 1,766
I used to do a lot of ferreting with my old spaniel and dont get me wrong they will never be as good as a good ferreting lurcher but found [bANNED TEXT] poaching with her she didnt draw the same unwanted attention that a lurcher would on some places from tractor drivers and farm workers. 1 Quote Link to post

RubyTex 1,957
I rabbit with my Springers out the back of my house, the older dog marks and flushes and my bitch chases them down. She's unbelievably fast and agile, i only get 2 or 3 flushes every couple of weeks but she gets them all. For a ten month old Springer i'm extremely proud of her. The first time she saw a rabbit she couldn't make up her mind what to do so just went for it, toyed with it then brought it back to me alive. The older dog dispatched it. From them on she's done it herself. Quote Link to post
