Guest cookiemonsterandmerlin
Like alot of shooter this winter OSR has been a no goer with little or no birds feeding on OSR all on feed rides and acorns. Locking them away from our reach ive had a few hints over the last two week and a couple of odd 40s 50s over stubble undersown with clover. But nowt to write home about well over the last week birds have been showing intrest in two fields . So with wind blowing last night a call to the old man plus Adey and all was set for a early morning attack with our postions allocated I went out to load the landy no a breath of wind bugger. Well I still set off with a slighlty sunken heart but with good number being RECCE I felt we still had a chance to bag a few. We arrived in the dark setup I was lucky to have a spot with a single ash ideal for some lofters . Setup all the deeks we were all about a mile apart in various spots well know flighs etc. Dawn broke we expected a fash and hetic first hour but naff all just crows rooks flighting out of a 100 acre wood. Then at 9 the birds starting drawing out tracking accross in huge numbers bypassing me and on to Adey postion . He was having steady shooting along with the old man then as the birds starting peeling back over the woods I manged to start drawing them into the ash tree after turning off the whirly which seem to spook the hel out of them. At 1ish the birds started to tail off and move to another OSR field this year nearly ever field in oxfordshire is OSR . Still between three of us we were just short of the 200 mark with 191 with Adey shooting the ton part not bad as he not been out for a while I struggled to top 40 not due to shooting prowness but lack of birds. Still after the hard lack of shooting it was a enjoyable day out back on the coneys tommorrow for the rest of week. Happy days Cookie Quote Link to post
