Lab 10,979
Im looking for a dog for beating and dont know if a cocker or english spaniel is better at it than the other?? No...both great at there job. Try and get a pup that is from working stock. If the parents are doing it well already then you have a great chance of a good working dog. Quote Link to post

Jim2 0
which one would be the most loyole? Quote Link to post
spaniel fan 2
I have found springers to be more honest and very willing to please you, the cockers seem to be happy to please you as long as it is what THEY want to do. I have limited experience but found springers easier to train, but that could just be the way it is with mine. Quote Link to post
Lloyd90 509
I know a bloke who train spaniels for field trials and he said the Springer coudlrange from anything from Amazing to rubbish and anything inbetween, every cocker he saw was either amazing or rubbish! No middle ground! For a beginner I would definately go for a Springer Quote Link to post
ftm 3,357
springer wouldbe my choice as cockers can test you a bit buthaving said that i loved my last little cocker a very honest bitch Quote Link to post
eddie3 9
your beating this season but who is to say what your going to be doing next or the season after that ? a days rough shooting ? a bit of fowling, i think most will agree springers are pretty much a good alrounder . Billy08 1
Im looking for a dog for beating and dont know if a cocker or english spaniel is better at it than the other?? springers i feel are easier to train than cockers but i think alot of there hunting characteristics are the same your beating this season but who is to say what your going to be doing next or the season after that ? a days rough shooting ? a bit of fowling, i think most will agree springers are pretty much a good alrounder . .out of curiosity are springers and cockesr not a bit weak for real wild fowling, ie. in the sea or on an estuary??in fairness especially with a cocker a goose or big drake would be very difficult to retrieve into waves or a strong current Quote Link to post
BenjaminCadd 109
I have a springer but also work alongside some cockers, i would say my springer is a bit more head strong and his cockers seem more relaxed / calmer? Might just be me!. One thing is for sure springers aim to please and thrive off working, and very very loyal. Quote Link to post
