what's classed as a bullx?

Recommended Posts

So would you not class my 1/4bull 1/4whip 1/2grey pup as a bull x ?

I would call it a grey whippet with a touch of bull but that's just my opinion. Either way you look at it it's a lurcher so unless you think it 'bigs up' a dog to call it a bull cross why call it anything else?

Why not call it a bull x grey with a touch of whippet ? lol some may find this funny but my old dar depending how they throw would call em whipps ha ha ha .

As far as i'm concerned a Lurcher is a Lurcher because of what it does, not what makes up it's breeding.   I've kept bull crosses for near 20 years but they are still Lurchers. As for the way they

hi there whin i agree with yato some degree if only everything was black and white ,bull crosse on the whole are primaly bred for serious pest controll, and take HELLA VA lot a beating at that job . LIKE YOURSELF if i was wanting a hound to run the fleet longear and the roe buck preban ,iwould of course consider a hound blessed with foot wind and running style much the same has the next man ,all in all a saluki lurcher or deerhound lurcher or a blend of both .we have just aquired a welp from such breeding but has we know the humble bunnyhis only on the menu.atb bunnys.

That to me would be lurcherxlurcher, lets face it once you go beyond 3 or 4 breeds in the mix then they are all lurcherxlurcher ?

I suppose we tend to label a dog on what it has visibly thrown to.

I don't class a bullx as a lurcher because they run and work different. They have there own classes at shows because they are shaped different aswell

I've kept bull crosses for near 20 years but they are still Lurchers. As for the way they work, well i've ran and caught just about all there is to catch over the years, no different to any other type, it's just lurcher work, as simple as...

I've got to admit and it's this question that got me thinking but i've always seen a Bull cross as only the cross between two breeds one of which is a Bull but when ya think of it, that would be only because you know it is that way bred and if your out and see any bully lookin lurcher and ya don't see evidence of any other breed, then yep, you'd probably say it was a Bull cross and... You'd be right, dispite what ever else makes up the dog.

Of the two dogs I have here, one is a half bred, the other out of a half bred bitch but to a lurcher to lurcher type dog but I only think of that one as a lurcher not a bull cross.. Daft really, because they are both just fecking lurchers!

If i'm asked by anyone what type of dogs I have, then my only reply is lurchers, because that's what they are.

Also, i'm not a fan of seperate classes for bull bloods, I just don't get it. If they are all lurchers then they should all stand together and be judged on their type against others of their own type. A judge should be looking to choose the dog that best suits its type as well as the other factors.

If it looks like a lurcher and performs like a lurcher, then it is, a fecking lurcher....! ;)

I agree mate, imho its a silly modern day idea that only a bull x can perform certain tasks, over yhe years i've had some very tough dogs that were 'just lurchers' and lets face it, it doesnt take a game dog to deal with quarry less than half its weight, or the big ones that dont bite back.
