Hurlock 114
Hello lads, I'm lining my bitch next year with the intention of keeping back 2 bitches out of the litter. Alot of the old boys I know say not to keep two pups out of the same litter, but they can't really tell me why? Apart from the hard work of looking after 2 pups can anyone tell me why its a bad idea? My bitch is my one in a million dog and keeping just reduces my chances of getting her equal. She's of an age where its not likely i'll line her again. Any advice would be appreciated. keepitcovert 842
Not a good idea mate sibling rivalry will rear its head, can give you a bit of grief when training. Quote Link to post
rocky1 942
i would say its more the hard work bring 2 pups on a once Quote Link to post
paulus 26
2 is easyier to keep but twice as hard to train and bring on 2 Quote Link to post

Terra Firma 136
kept 2 back from my litter as i knew that i would be the only time i'd breed as it was just to replace the ageing parents, i kept a dog and a bitch, they're bond is very close. Other than the training aspect where i give them indavidual 1 on 1 time there is'nt any problems. As for rivalry, you can buy another dog in and it will happen, i've always made sure that all my dogs are socialised with as many other dogs as possible from an early age and i will not tollerate any kind of aggression towards other dogs, this is the most important part of they're training for me as i travel out with many different friends and there dogs so an aggresive dog is no good to me. swagboy 9
keeping two back is hard but can be dun one will cum (or you pertherd one than the other) on moor than the other and most people will pout moor time in to the one witch is doing moor (witch i have dun with terriers in the past) and the other don't make the grade. so if you do keep 2 back and one is doing better take one the other out and do sum moor 1 on 1 with it atb with them Quote Link to post

lofti 579
depends on how long your gona keep them for mate, ive just recently bred a litter, there was 8 in the litter 6 pups went to friends at 8wk old i kept 2 back after allot of pondering which one to keep the 7th pup went 2 week ago a 5 1\2 month old other that more shite to clean up i had no probs what so ever in fact its better as they are quiet in the kennal if your out with other dogs you have. ive had two pups out of the same litter before and training them together is a bit of a nightmare as they distract each other constantly. and in the end had to be done seperatly which is fine if you got time to do so. good luck what ever you do 1 Quote Link to post
Hurlock 114
Thanks lads. Proper advice there. Like tiny says I'd only be picking on colour at 10 weeks, an i'd be scared on not picking the best pup. If I keep 2 back and 1 doesn't make the grade I will find a home for it. My concern was that they might have held each other back but good to hear from people who have done it and I'll get a new shovel for all the shit!! Thanks lads and happy christmas.
