our ferrets will be in season soon.i have 3 jills and 2 hobs in together at the moment.what am wondering is if i get one hob neutered and one vac'ed and keep the 2 inbeside the 3 jills should there be any problems i.e one gets injured.i know i should have only one hob in there with the jills but its done now!i dont mind paying the £ to get the 2 sorted,id rather keep the 5 together if possible but if i have to take one hob out then so be it.what do yous think?

A vasectomised hob has the same testosterone as an intact one, only he fires blanks.

 

The castrated one won't so the vasectomised hob will fight the other who won't want to fight back.

 

I wanted one of mine vasectomised but as you know I had to have all 3 castrated for them to be together. If you get 1 vas and 1 castrated. Keep the castrated one in and the vas 1 separated.

 

If I was you mate just get them both castrated and get in a vas hob.

 

There's advantages to castration, no fighting, season and can work them all year round. People said they wouldn't work once I got them done but you've seen they work perfectly fine.

if it was just the 2 in the hutch at same time then aye,but surly in with the rest theres alot less risk?

I get all of mine "completely done" ie castration or spay. It costs a lot more but is much easier when done.

 

As for not being able to breed from them...I'm sure I'll find more when the time comes.

2 hobs,one neutered hob and one vac'ed inbeside 3 jills,theres only gonna be one hob trying to sow his oats.the other will have had the chop so wont be trying to rape anything that moves so will the vac'ed hob really see there other as a threat.surly theres just as much chance of the vac'ed hob injuring the other jills then? because that one vac'ed hob is out numbered there wouldnt be the same risks with 2 or 3 ferrets intogether?

alright fair enough,i asked a similar question before but wasnt 100% sure.kinda f****d up with this,ill see if any members here want a hob.if i cant sort suttin,ill split them..f**k,i had loads of spare hutchs not long ago..another mistake learnt from lol
