obi2 239
There doesn't seem to be much written about this cross, how many people run them and what were they like when other quarry was legal? Are the Hancock dogs any good? Quote Link to post
DogFox123 1,379
My old dog is a 3/4 Hancock, was satisfied with him. Good on rabbit and hare, wouldn't touch fox though. Very good nose on him, had a few bad traits like sometimes opening up and constantly yapping at home but hey ho Edited December 23, 2011 by DogFox123 Quote Link to post

Are the Hancock dogs any good? Seen quite a few of this cross run over the years including a pup out of the first litter hancock ever bred and to be honest were not that impressed with them at the side of other lurcher to lurcher bred dogs as imho any 3 quarter greyhound bred dog wont have the same stamina and recovery rate of a good lurcher to lurcher bred dog. 1 Quote Link to post

wirral countryman 2,110
I've ran a lot of collie/greyhounds from about 1980 onwards and plummer made them popular, as up till he wrote about them telling us they were going to be the best dog in the world we had only had deerhound/greyhound and saluki crosses with the odd bull cross about,I prefer the 5/8 grey/3/8 collie cross myself as an all rounder,my first 3/4 came off "MERLE" and "FATHOM",I had one out of "CHUCKLES" which was good,in fact the black 3/4 in this pick took his first fox single handed aged 9 months,he would take rabbits easilly but never got the hang of catching them hares,he could take a few but he was'nt what I would call a hare dog and yet I've had a few that have been good on them, never had one that could'nt do a fox on its own but I have to agree with poacher they produce a far better dog when crossed with another lurcher, the bitch I have now is probably the best dog I've owned as an all-rounder and is lurcher/lurcher bred but out of 2 very good dogs, atb,WM Quote Link to post

lurcher330 2,301
i had 2 3/4 greyhounds 1/4 collie bred from my mates 1st x collie greyhound bitch back to a coursing greyhound,2 of the best dogs i ever had the pleasure to own ,they would work any quarry put in front of them and could hold their own against some saluki bred lurchers out coursing, sadly the bitch had to be PTS at 6 years old due to cancer but i still have her brother 9 years old and still out lamping bushing and ferreting but wouldn't exspect him to be up to much in the coursing field but he still catches a few now and then while out bushing the dog still working away the bitch had to be PTS a few years back RIP Tess Tess and Tips (TnT) Their dam Blacky 15 years old now and spending her retirment in the stables and still taken out the odd rat. 1 Quote Link to post
