Stabs 3
Just come back from the pub and that question of questions came up again..... What makes the ultimate pie! Short crust vs puff Steak and Kidney vs Chicken and Mushroom etc Then there's Steak and Ale vs Steak and Guinness Do you expect a whole pie when you order one, or are you just a top/lid kind of guy? What's the best pie based meal? That one is so hard.....I think I'd have to go Minced beef with puff pastry and mushy peas, with plenty of vinegar and a nice gravy Then again....pie and mash is hard to beat..... Where do you stand on Fray Bentos....personally I'm a fan, but are they for the purist? So many questions.......
Guest JDF
shortcrust every time, don't care what filling as long as it's proper meat.chips peas and gravy for the best meal, always thought fray bentos was similar to pedigree chum to be honest.
jasper65 6
Fray Bentos steak and kidney ! no one else eats them in the house so I end up with the tin , not a fan of crust pastry but Puff pastry on any steak and kidney pie will do it for me......

OldTrapCollector 377
It has to be steak and kidney for me, in a good gravy and decent steak. Shortcrust pastry too, none of that disintegrating puff stuff . . . a good pile of chips and gravy, maybe a mushroom or two. I also prefer the whole pie not a slice of a bigger one - it's not the same, and I feel that someone else could be getting more filling than me, so it has to be individual to be fair. ChrisJones 7,975
I'm going to go out on a limb here and say cheese and onion pie. My gran has to make it though and there will be none of this 'lid' nonsense. It's full crust or nothing at all. Home made all the way.

pat blewitt 41
Those scotch pies are disgusting, instant heartburn, do they still warm them up in the deep fat friers, along with the mars bars
TOMO 26,185
what about apple pie serriously though i had a pie floater in adaliade in oz . got to say its one of the best pies i have ever had. but all this mass producesd ginsters , frey bentoss is all shit . best pies are home made types or the litle butchers that specilse in them. with a nice crust, chunky pieces of steak and gravy
