skycat 6,174
That hare was never going anywhere on that plough. Most dogs will pick up a hare easy on plough like that: hare couldn't really run at all. 7 Quote Link to post

Romany 1,065
When I was young the thought of running my lurchers on plough frightened me, then, realised how f*****g easy it is for them, hard or solf, slipped them half a field away at times, and most times still got them..NEVER had a dog get an injury running on plough but caught loads and loads of hares and rabbits on plough..I like a dog that kills quick, so I found that vid quite boring, and at times frustrating.. 3 Quote Link to post

Didn't seem a fair match in my opinion..... 2 Quote Link to post

I agree, given a choice when coursed, most hares will get off plough as quick as possible ,because they know they are vulnerable on it. 1 Quote Link to post

chartpolski 25,503
The dog did it's job, but nothing special. In fact, I'm a bit disapointed that it didn't finish the job quicker. It may be a better dog on different ground, but on plough, it didn't realy impress ! Cheers. 2 Quote Link to post
skycat 6,174
theres lots of videos of that dog on other land as well as plough and it runs well skycat what have you got in your kennel thats as good as that dog? I've not got a really good hare dog at the moment, but if any of my so called 'all rounders' , fast on the take off, good strike, hadn't picked that hare up easily I would have been disappointed. That hare was flummoxed, couldn't get going on that rough stuff. I'm not saying the dog was no good, and it may well impress me on land where the hare had more chance, but I was just making an observation. I've only had one dog that couldn't catch on plough to save her life. A little 22" bitch who struggled almost as much as a hare on deep plough, but once she was out on the drilling it was pretty much game over as she was so fast and tight to her hares. I know that the type of plough does play a part, and I stopped running on hard clay plough after I saw what it did to tendons and toes. Silt, soft plough or well weathered plough is completely different, and won't affect the hare anywhere near as much. 5 Quote Link to post
