ryhope toma 42
While I was typing I think the ruined topic was removed, because i got a notification that I didn't have permission to reply to it. Why do people have to spoil things? If you don't agree with something, bring a cohesive arguement and say your piece, politely. If you have nothing to actually add, then keep quiet and read what others have to say. Stirring simply wastes pages, causes the thread to lose its direction and any good stuff disappears down the page count. The other thing that bugs me is, why can't people write properly? I am not on about spelling or grammer, but using numbers for words instead of writing it properly. Some of the replies on here I need someone to translate into English for me. Now I have had my moan I'll give you a story from back home. We used to get good seatrout and salmon runs on the Fowey, Fal and Camel. I was down on the Camel with a stick and rabbit wire and the water was low, it would have been about back end of July and there were fish in the river. The estate had taken on a young gamekeeper, I think he was a YTS (which dates it for you - early 80s?) Anyway, I had been sailing close to the wind but got away with it a few times by the skin of my teeth, but the keeper was out to nab me. Early one morning I had a fresh fish, I had just lifted it out of the river when the young keeper pounced, "Ha, caught you red handed this time" he said. I looked at him,and then at the salmon and said "you mean this? This is my pet salmon, Sammy. I have just brought him down for his daily swim. Look, I'll let him swim off in the pool and call him back in 10 minutes." I let the fish go and stood there, with my hands in my pockets next to the young keeper. After about 10minutes the keeper turned to me and said, "go on then, call him back." I looked at him and replied, "Call who back?" why i ! what a story.............. Quote Link to post
chartpolski 23,685
I would say poaching and putting food on the table were the same thing. We were selling rabbits for £1 apiece back in the 70's, and my take home pay from an engineering job was £53 a week, so it was good money for rabbits ! Hares and venison were usualy kept for ourselves, much like now. Don't get me wrong, we didn't HAVE to poach to eat, but it was an enjoyable sideline ! LOL ! A guy on another site once asked me why I went out to kill a hare for dinner, when Tesco's has all the food we need........ He simply didn't understand some peoples way of life ! Cheers. 4 Quote Link to post
