My new Pup (it's going to be the best Dog ever!!)

Recommended Posts

After reading every possible book, magazine, and internet hunting site, and getting very confused by all the conflicting advice on which breed is best for which job, I decided that whatever the quarry, training and preparation of your Dog will be the biggest factor as to how successful you are.

With this, and a few other things learned from my search, I decided I wanted a real 'all rounder' from a good line. So, after speaking to dozens of very reputable and extremely knowledgeable people who regularly have Puppies and fully trained Dogs, advertised in all the for sale sections of all the magazines and websites, I went to collect my Puppy.

After arriving at the breeders house, I was led to a small cupboard beneath the stairs, and instructed to stand back while he opened the door to his 'whelping room'.

Choosing one of the 37 puppies from the litter was really difficult, the variation between the Pups was amazing, and a real credit to both the breeder and the Bitch for producing such a fine and varied litter.

One Puppy remained in the cupboard asleep and never moved even though some of the others were literally taking chunks out of it. I was really impressed when I was informed 'I took it out last night, and it still has a lot to learn but it did ok, taking 137 Rabbits, and 7 'big fellas' in a two hour period'. This must also have been the reason it seemed unusually cold and stiff.

All of the other puppies were so active, constantly rolling around and scratching (which, thanks to the breeder, I now know is the way in which young hunting Dogs build up their muscles).

Anyway, with the help of another valuable piece of info from the breeder, I eventually picked the one which had the most shits in a two minute period ('A good hunting Dog will constantly empty itself so it's lighter, and ready for action'!). He was just starting his sixteenth, very loose crap when the two minutes were up, and I thought 'Wow, I've never seen anything shit that much or that far, he must be really keen!'

Before leaving, the breeder let me and my new Puppy wave a quick bye bye to its Mother (from a distance, and through the window though, as we didn't want too much upset). The poor Bitch must've sensed that one of her children was being taken, as she was doing cartwheels and somersaults, in an effort to free herself from her chain. She eventually paused to pee, and when I stupidly remarked that I thought only male Dogs cocked their legs, the breeder chuckled and told me that 'the hardest Bitches pee that way too'. She really must have been a hard Bitch, as she even had what appeared to be a penis!

When I got Home I fought the urge to get out and catch something straight away, and decided to put some of the training advice into practice before unleashing my pride and joy on the unsuspecting animal kingdom. After all, I wanted to be able to take some of the credit for such a magnificent beast. I also thought that 10 being my lucky number, I'd wait another few days when he'd be 10 weeks old, Too old to start perhaps for some people but I'd made up my mind and I wouldn't be budged.

When seeing him, I'm sure everyone will agree that I've got a real winner. Even though his breeding is excellent, my training has gone a long way towards making him what he is - He's small and agile, yet tough and able to tackle anything... I've also given him the ability to make a good clean kill when he comes up against what his breeder called 'Big fellas', (though I must ask a few more of my internet friends to find out just what these are lol).

So we're off out for an hour tonight, and I bet you all can't wait to see pics of the huge haul we're going to get, but for the meantime feast your eyes on............................
