Thanks guys, I'm not really looking to do any extreme off-roading, just the odd green lane and carting hide, deeks and a dog round fields occasionally. Had been considering a newish Kia Sportage diesel, but the wife is a snob and as I'm going to trade a Jag in, she wanted another posh car to replace it ffs!

BDK, when you say fragile, what things break on them?

Cheers all

Duncan.

Id go for the merc personally ,if your only doing green lanes and nothing to severe a set of all terrain tyres would help ive had the new shape navara and thought it was shite on fuel, I know a bloke who uses a 270ml with mud tyres around his farm with no problems , ive got a new shape 320cdi ml and use that for going shooting in ect havent been stuck yet!
