patdahat 41
depending where you are, in ireland there is a bounty been paid by the NARGC to clubs for the grey squirrel, and as far as mink minister jimmy deenihan has/is talking with whoever to try and get €3 a mink. this could be and will prob be a long way off but it would be worth freezing any of them caught now just incase it's a long way off, even at €3 i dont think anyone will make a fortune, it wouldn't cover the cost of fuel, how long would before you'd have the price of a new trap, ah well i suppose it will be better than nothing, happy trapping. Scotica 0
Shetland council had a bounty on rabbits and Polecats (mostly feral ferrets) up until recently. 25p a rabbit tail and £14 per polecat! And the council were even supplying the live catch traps! Now thats good money! We were up there on a rabbit cull and still saw a good number of polecats while we were there. Quote Link to post
logun 91
would have thought rabbits would have helped keep shetland as it is myselfe,, but maybe not Quote Link to post

Scotica 0
£14 per polecat...that sounds like a lot It is when you actually see the numbers on the ground. It wasn't a free for all though, from what i know, smallholders/ landowners had to register for the scheme, were then provided with the traps and paid on their returns. No doubt some of them made a few quid out of it but im guessing most were just covering their losses as a result of the damage being caused. If it ever did become a free for all i would happily spend my summer holidays up there running a couple of hundred traps to reap the benefits! Quote Link to post
