spot.me.in.the.dark 5 Posted December 20, 2011 Report Share Posted December 20, 2011 tonight i went for a little look out throught the forest. earlier i sighted the bsa meteor into around 12 yards specifecly for the roost shooting. anyway there wasnt too much in sight but a loverly placed headshot bagged me a wood pigeon... about 5 mins later i tried to headshot a pheasent .... this shot missed and i can asume i hit its body as he could see me from below but never moved... i quickly scrambled another target trophy into the barell raised the rifle and as i squesed the trigger a few feathers droped to the floor and his head hang low but he was still in that bloody tree.. i got directly underneeth him and placed the woodie on the floor as a marker then climed the tre shook the branch and as he dropped his wings opened and he half glided out of sight ( realy wasnt too pleased so i started mooching around and couldnt find the poor sod.... i went home got the whipet and returned to the spot with a torch and couldnt find him.... so my question is what do you do if you struggle to find a shot bird .... stewie Quote Link to post

Even though a headshot might always be the best option for a clean kill sometimes they arent available or a mistake is made. I hope someone comes along and does give you the answer and good hunting. He stated he went for a head shot but missed like we all do at some point or other. One thing I would reccomend though when shooting up steep angles such as trees, is to learn to compensate for the trajectory of the pellet and adjust accordingly. If you had put the crosshair on its noggin, the pellet is highly likely to miss your point of aim and you will find that your pellet flies high. I can't say as I know Paul well, having only met up with him for one hunting trip, but I really don't think he swings that way fella. Paulus, come shoot my garden Pigeons!
