Strong Stuff 2,171
Was a Mod for about 3 weeks when Quadrophenia first came out (1979) I was 13........... Got my first Scoot at about 17, (1983) and had them for 10 years or so, why the fook do they insist on calling them "bikes" on Eastenders, that Phil Daniels should put them straight!!! Few little pics of my "best" one ............. Got a feeling of Deja Vu about this, have we been here before posting pics of Scooters on here? Mr Baldie, That was some scoot wasn't it? 210 reed valve? How reliable was it? Was "SCS" Steel City Scooters? rings a bell. Wonder if DTC in Leeds are still going? That Macca was the paint Daddy, mate had a GP painted by him, street racer style, we went and picked it up in a van, it cost him about £2500 back then to have painted, he insisted on getting it out the back to have a look at the Mway services on the way home ............... and dropped it off the ramp onto it's side he got it back 3 months and a grand later Can see this ending in tears ............ I pass Len Turners the Scooter shop every day with the dog, might have to go in and have a mooch next time I'm passing ............... You watch me end up with a Scoot now ........ mark.a 0
macca the owner of DTC moved from the arches in leeds to a new shop near hunslett leeds in about 1987 then shut down all together in 1990 ish he sometimes still does the odd job from home. I used to be in a club called harrogate wanderers from 1983 to 1987 then Harrogate scooter club from then till 2001, we all still go to some rallys with family commitments and all, we used to go to on average about 10 rallys a year including the euro rallies. Have still got a gp200 but the seen seems totally different nowadays with people taking kids to rallys and been boring farts. We used too go and get pissed and have a laugh including the way there and back. Maybe I hav,nt ever grown up!
Guest baldie
Hi Strong stuff, are you mb,s brother in law? did you used to own "love slipped thru my fingers " ? Yes, it was built by steel city scooters, and one of the very first mallossi 210,s in the country. At the time of building it was reputedly the fastest street legal vespa in the country [clocked at a genuine 90 mph] and accelerated faster than any scooter i,ve ever owned. It was very reliable until a duff batch of putoline synthetic oil appeared, and took its big end, and half the casing, barrel etc with it. The result was a new top end, and a shit load of ali welding, and the only way to save the casing.....a reed valve Then a new micron. Then it was the daddy alright, but others had caught up by then. It ate another top end, due to a split in the reed manifold, and then the third top end went west, because you couldnt jet this kit, to be clean around town, and have enough lubricant to run on motorways, it just wasn,t possible to find a happy medium. After that, i,d had enough , i was a young lad, and couldnt keep finding the money, so i dropped a new std 200 in it, that came out of a write off, and used it for a few years, till i sold it to a fella i worked with, who consequently died, and its now sat in his brothers shed, rotting. The bike was a love/hate relationship really, but i would have another tommorow, and probarbly will.I would love a rally 200, or a series 2 lammy. mark A. do you know the york lads? especially douggie? smashing fella. Strong Stuff 2,171
Hi Strong stuff, are you mb,s brother in law? did you used to own "love slipped thru my fingers " ? No mate, not me, I do know Mark B though, haven't spoken to him for ages now, but he was after collars so I'll give him a ring. But ................. if I had a £ for every time "love" had slipped through my fingers I'd be a rich man.......... Putoline ........... I only ever used Castrol 545, used it in my 350LC too, never had a problem. You know you need to rescue your old scoot from that garage, Pete Marchant got my T5 in the pics, after I had a bit of a crash on it. If yours did 90, then it was the fastest, mine was clocked at around 85 by a car, but the thing about the MB engine was it's reliablilty, it was solid, bit like him really!!
