Easiest and best thing it take it to the vet's as soon as possible ,how many folk on here giving advice have veterinarian qualifications ?. So your going to end up with a pile of home remedies as best and by the time you have posted on here and waited on a reply you could have been to the vets

There might not be anyone on here with a veterinarian qualification but some will have had more experiences with

ferrets as some vets will have had so I can't see how asking for advice can do any harm. Also it might not be a case of waiting for

replies before going to a vets as some vets only have appointments twice a day say 9-10am then 4-6pm the rest of the time they're often out doing the rounds.

Thats the thing there such small animals they can go downhill quickly ,if you phone your vet most cases they say bring it in .

The lad has already said he got it to the vets as soon as he could.

Maybe town vets are different [as in having a vet in the practice all day] but in the village I live all

the vets are out doing their rounds during the day from 10am untill 4pm and I can't see them scurrying back

to the practice if the receptionist phoned them to say someone wanted their ferret checked out.

My vet is open from 9.00 - 9.30 & 5.00 - 6.00 for drop in surgery, other than that it's an £80 minimum emergency call out.

Nobody has offered any home remedy on this thread B, and nobody has given any veterinary advise.

Do you really think that a veterinary qualification is needed to advise on basics like keeping an ill ferret warm and hydrated until you can get it to a vet?

sorry to hear of your loss mate,,,lots on here are no doubt very experienced keepers of ferrets,,,,,,but like most said,,,get it to the vets asap because by the time youve looked on here the poor little fooker would have deteriated even more,,,,,but if you done as you said and got it to the vets asap,,well in my eyes you done ok,,,,,,,like some say on here,,they aint got vet money but if had a sick ferret and it cost 80 quid to see the vet.if i had the money .id not think twice,,,,i would not knock it on the head,,,i know you can pick em up free or for a tenner or so but id never knock one on the head n go to get another for the sake of the money,,still,,,each to their own i suppose.......like i said,,sorry to hear of your lost mate n hope the hobs ok

sorry to hear of your loss, similar thing happened one of my 8 month jills begining of this year and sounds like it could have been a blockage caused by a foreign body as it was in my jill caused by sometihng she picked up whilst eating, i gave her over night as i thought she may have picked up as ferrets sometimes do got her to vets first thing in the morning they took her in x rayed and found a blockage but wouldnt operate until until they could rehydrate her and get her stronger again to cope with the anaestitic but sadly she never picked up and passed away at the vets.
