Abnormal service is resumed due to a lack of wind!!!

As you may have been aware the past few days have have been rather blustery and yesterday it eased off major league in East Anglia. So yesterday the trusty .22 HW was dusted off, topped up and taken to the permission. A couple of target shots proved zero had not shifted. Crisply crunching down the frost I made my way to bale corner. No pheasants were behind this beautiful blind, so I crawled out and round the corner.

A vic of three pheasants gave it legs into the hedgerow, but one stayed in the edge of the hedge, staring me down. From previous experience setting up the rifles I knew this bird was 30 metres away from me, so I lined up and fired one. Straight in the noggin, pheasant roll over and down the bottom of the dry ditch! Well Mole does not give up easily these days so I picked my way through the blackthorn and retrieved my prize. A nice plump fat pheasant! Some unusual markings on it and a heavier weight bird too!

Now the season has really started the number of birds on the permission seems to have gone up a little! But had my eye on one of these fancy pheasants for a while now! I love the unusual plumage, not your average brown bird, but the pimp my plucking style!
