Guest cookiemonsterandmerlin
Well we return to this hedge ever year despite catching good number each year it never really seems to dent the population . Well its a awful blackthorn hedge in a raised sandy bank perfect bunny ground and the bury must 200 yards long and inter linked a real nightmare to keep track of the coney and ferts movement. Well we always tackle it with three short longnets at either end and one the middle I have chopped out walkways in the autumm so I can set the nets without to much problem. I always laugh when I set pictures of longnets set along a hedge rather than though as I have rarely come accross a coney bolt accross a field they alway rather hole hop up the hedgeline. We cover all the outlying bolt holes etc leaving the inner holes open. Ground hard a s hell but given a good fixing for the pegs at least, all setup for 730 awn was breaking so we had a cuppa . And then enter our 15 ferts in numerous places the action is always slow at first while the ferts search out the depper levels and start pushing them up for the other ferts to bolts its always amazing to work a team of good ferts work together hunting. The first rabbits started to bolt and re enter the warren until five back netted into the outer holes . A cracking morning sport with the longnets and purse nets working together to account for 32 coneys in under 3 hours. Heres a picture of todays bag in hung to cool. Cheers Cookie 2 Quote Link to post

The one 8,503
Nice going mate with a wee bit of effort cutting gaps for your nets you have a good bagful , You could snare them but that wouldn't be as good sport Quote Link to post
Ideation 8,216
Well done matey, out of interest, how many holes to warrent 15 ferrets? Seems like a lot of ferrets to ground??? I know that big sets require a lot, but we've done 100 + holers with a half dozen good ferrets pretty quick. Quote Link to post
