its funny as soon as they ask its pcp way better than springers ,now when people say that how much of there word is based on experience?genarally none,

went out a few days back with me mate and his rapid 7 and my tx200 both .177 and i was getting as good groups as him,one you learn to correctly hold a springer you can have just as much fun,

You more or less answerd your own question, the springer is perfect for hunting but over distances such as 40 yards + the PCP will hold its self more efficient for a good humain kill. I had the TX200 HC but found the under lever a bit noisey especially when out hunting rabbits. I used spring rifles from the age of around 17, my first springer was the Webly Vulcan, a very accurate spring rifle for the mid 90's. I started using PCP's about 4 years ago starting with the BSA T10 multi shot then i upgraded to AAs410 and the HW100KT all .177 .The HW100 being the most accurate upto 55 yards for my shooting ability and very very reliable, i also always use a laser range finder for a more accurate and humain kill.

However i got into long distance cycling a few years ago and more recently i was training myself to ride the lenght of the UK on my performance road bike, but in May i had a seriouse road accident while out on my bike and broke ALL my ribs and had seriouse chest troumer injurys..hence im getting myself another HW100 .177 when i return to the UK in January.. :victory:

PS im no stranger to the hunting life..iv been here a few times ;)

Good luck with your TX and have fun.

I truly believe after seeing this myself, a person that is well versed with the harmonics and correct hold and shooting technique of a quality spring piston rifle (someone like Simon, Pianoman) is as good with his HW77 with Hawke SR 12 scope as I am with an Ultra or HW100 S on a good day.

I have been and shot with him now 2 times and used my old Tench tuned and tweaked r10 which was as accurate as a rifle £1200 I’m sure and he matched me shot for shot out to the max range we were plinking at (targets only) which I think was about 50 / 55m metres at targets the size of a 1p piece and a bit larger targets out to 64 metres on the laser range finder.

At the end of the day a shot on target from a springer is as accurate as a shot on target from a PCP.

I think a lot of people get mixed up with this subject and over time people have mixed up the results people like Terry Doh get with a FT target rifles with hunting rifles too much. A £2000 + FT rifle and setup will obviously have a massive advantage over a £300 hunting Ultra and only a fool would think otherwise but on a general hunting PCP and springer the shooter really makes the difference I believe.

Its true and a fact that a PCP is far easier to gain good accuracy with due to it being 99 % recoilless less the hammer ect and so people can generally shoot better and further with one, put a man with a shooting talent behind a springer though and he will also be able to shoot longer ranges out to 55 metres and stay within a 1 inch kill zone.

If anyone wants to put these comments to the test come to the Hunting Life meet in June next year and try your skills with your PCP in a friendly comp against Pianoman, I think a lot of attendees will be pleasantly shocked at his skill with his springer.

Owning both, spring rifles are far more satisfying to hunt with & shoot in general. The extra weight, recoil & skill needed makes for far more satisfying kills. Can't knock pcp's though, they do what they are designed to do extremely well.

After using a PCP for so long i found it quit difficult even hitting a kill zone on a HFT target over 40yards..I got that use to "hunting" with my HW100KT that shooting with the springer became a bit pointless as my ability and personal preferance favoured the PCP for humainly dispaching vermin. I did try to kill a rabbit between 65 to 70yards one evening purly to test my ability but the pellet hit the rabbit and knocked it over but it wasnt as accurate or even as humain as i would have liked it to be..So when shooting live targets i stick to my capability of a GOOD clean kill. To me this is important. However with pleanty of practice shooting effectivly with a springer can fetch good results as you say.

I like your competative side and i have 2 of your first DVD's and if this Pianoman is as good as you say with a springer agianst your PCP's then il save my petrol and take your word for it

i shoot with the meteor and the hw 95 but previously ovned the syntarg( which i gave away to a mate)... they are all springers and all yood enough for hunting.. i also shot a xs79 for a while which was just as good .. most air rifles above the 100 pound range are suitable for hunting... the real question to ask here is ,,,, is your mate suitable for hunting ?? could be good for team morall coz everyone likes a bulshitter

Depends who is holding the riffle....

that's it right there.

I can't use a springer to save my life - couldn't one hole at even 10 meters (and I compete in 10m olympic!) I'm all over the place with it.

My auld lad however would nearly embarrass any 10 meter shooter. Gave him some 10 meter targets a few months back and he was grouping about 15mm edge to edge, free standing, through ironsites, with his HW90, from 10 meters without any supportive clothing. (I couldn't manage much better than that with a 603 without kit!)

He'll take a jam jar lid every time at 50 meters.

...but that's what he grew up using and, granted, the '90's a gas ram which helps a little, but he's still a feckin' artist with it no matter what way you cut it.

It's all down to the shooter.
