training a springer on the whistle ?

Recommended Posts

Ok so it is training time for my springer pup and i am a complete noob at this.

I am just wondering is there a complete set of commands for the whistle or any where that i could find online that would have a basic layout of commands for whistle training your dog.

As for the whistle command itself, is it like a shorter morse code as in blasts on the whistle ?

Please excuse me if the above sounds stupid but i guess i am training myself every bit as much as the dog.

Thanks

Whistle commands must be simple and above all consistent.

The ones I use are:

One long blast for stop

One short pip for sit

Two pips for turn (while hunting)

Several urgent sounding pips for recall.

excellent and do you use hand signals with the whistle commands or just the whistle alone.

Thanks for that

Definatly use hand signals to begin with while your dog learns what the whistle commands mean but you're aiming to use hand, voice and whistle commands independently. Hand signals only work if your dog is looking at you/can see you.
