dEs 6
Very nice pup lad.. My mate has one similar looking but it's Irish terrier/Bull X and it's about a year old. Nice pup to. It's out of an irish terrier X dog that i have out the back at the moment, a genuine fox dog that i was lucky to get given to me by a mate. I see you said that he'll only be at the rabbits this season.. Do you reckon the irish terrier/wheaton x's take longer to switch on etc? than your Bull x types? Or maybe it's for another reason? Just curious incase your wondering!! Like i say nice pup.. hopefully he'll do you right! Quote Link to post
Guest JDF
thanks des,the reason for rabbits only this year is just i like to take things slowly,by the tail end of next season he'll be at an age where i could give him a look at a fox but i don't think it'll do any harm to hold him off.the sire of the pup is a good honest fox dog. for the irish and wheatens being late to switch on,it's the first irish terrier bred dog i've owned so i don't know.had a wheaten x a good few years back now and that dog and any other from that line i saw were mental and needed holding back, fate went against me with that one as he was killed at 4 while on a hare but even he spent his first two seasons as ferreting dog. he'll get his chance at fox but i like to make sure there's a few more strings to his bow incase fox isn't on the agenda. dEs 6
Thanks for the reply JDF.. Sadly as im sure you well know the North isn't exactly booming with game, and fox is No.1 on my quarry list, so he has to be on the agenda! I'd do abit of lamping at rabbits but thats about the height of it.. would do alot more but it's finding them and finding them in numbers to test a dog that is the problem in this area.. ya wouldn't like to point me in the direction of a few tidy spots would ye? I hope your pup racks up a full set of strings on his bow anyway! Good luck mate. Quote Link to post
