Great job with getting this one Rob Hi Rob Thats correct we do not have a limit as to how many you can cull , but those amongst us assess the deer on the ground and condition .taking into consideration of habitat in which they live , we then form a cull program to sustain those animals on the ground and along with possible damage control to growing new plantations etc and decide how many and which animals to remove in the cull program. Well done Billy by the way nice cull doe Cheers Stu Quote Link to post

I was in England and Scotland this past summer as my wife won a Corrie Street trip and we did a tour. Beautiful country and people, especially in the pubs. I never seen so many pubs in my life + it was great to get a full pint not the 1/2 pints we have here in Canada. If I get there again, I will contact you for sure. Thanks again and safe hunting...Rob Quote Link to post

Well done Billy by the way nice cull doe Cheers Stu Hey Stu, You mean the gov't lets you manage the herd with no intervention? If so, that is awesome as nobody knows better what is going on with a herd than the people in the field. Here, in Nova Sciotia, we have a natural resources office and provincial gov't who dictate what can be done. Normally the provincial gov't person has never hunted and sometimes know absolutely nothing about wildlife which makes it very difficult to have laws changed. As an example, doe season here was closed for over 10 years and a person could not shoot a buck with less than a 4 inch spike. Brother, let me tell ya, inexperienced hunters and hunters who simply did not care about the herd just wiped out the small buck population and the does ate the older bucks out of house & home. The government finally realized the error of their ways and opened doe season on a draw basis only and it took them 4 years to have the right number of tags for does to try and reduce the doe population. Hunters, for years, had been trying to get this done much earlier. The area I hunt has very few shootable bucks and I will not shoot a doe as the deer population in our area is still low due to the snow fall in the winter and coyotes. Hopefully, next year will be better as the shootable bucks this year were all nocturnal and I just could not get them coming during the day. The other 3 guys I hunt with had the same problem. Not sure if you saw my buck pics or not but I will add them to this reply. Cheers and safe hunting brother Rob Quote Link to post

Cheers and safe hunting brother Rob It seems like hunters over in Canada have created themselves a problem in the past and that the Government over there has had to take steps to intervene to correct it. Over here more emphassis is placed on training and the need to control deer in a selective manner all in all it works to some extent but even so where mass cullings have taken place in some areas of Scotland deer on the ground have been reduced in such numbers that proffesional stalkers have made formal complaints and resigned their positions due to there employees intructions , some considerable consternation exists and somewhat fractous to say the least. But generally the system works exceedingly well. Apoligies to Nasty Billy by the way hyjacking your thread a little. Regards Stu Quote Link to post

Born Hunter 17,784
Interesting to read how hunting views differ over the other side of the Atlantic to ours. It does appear quite different throughout North America when compared to Britain. Not better or worse, just different..... in a good way. Nice going billy! Quote Link to post
