lanesra 3,994
Watched a documentary about Nigel Benn and Gerald Mclelland's fight in the 90s , Mclelland was left with long term damage to his brain and needs 24 hr care , really interesting too watch and showed how tough Benn was considering how fancied Mclelland was, we had some very good boxers in that era , Mclelland apparently threw a labrador in with his APT to give the dog some "blood" which if true is sick though his family denied this , Benn is now a born again christain livin in spain about to move to Australia . thorny 100
very well made documentary. Boxing at that time was electric. Remember watching the fight in a local pub on big screne the place went mental when he went down on his knee to take his count. Very sad ending for him. Such a shame that he and Watson ended up the same way and within the same era.

For me without a doubt that was a time when boxing was great,i used to follow benn a lot ,went to most of his fights ,that was when boxing was exciting, before that the best time was hagler, hearns ,sugar ray, duran etc. There hasn,t been anything going on since that lot to even interest me in paying to watch boxing tbh,.. Apparently Mcllellen was a bit of an arse....didnt deserve what he got of course but wasnt the nicest of characters he was one of these soppy street style dogfighters with a couple of fat pooches he thought was tough. Benn never did go to Australia that interview was about 4 years ago he lives in Mallorca.....one of the greatest displays of gameness you could ever see from 2 fighters that night.
gnasher16 30,437
yeah they done a test off some tried up blood on McClellans boot 100% proof Its only 100 % proof that somebody close to Mcllellen that night was taking steroids......was it matched to Benn,no..............have a look at some of the lumps in and around Mcllellens corner and its highly likely to have come from his own camp.....
