Im currently hunting my m harris on my own without the aid of a ferret or dog,but im thinking of getting either one of theses in to help me out. The land i work over range from shooting estates to open hill ground, the quarry i have to hunt is phessies, rabbit, hare, magpie, crows, ducks and squirells.

At the moment because i havent long got him out of the moult for (work reasons) i have been doing the bushing, ive managed to knock up a good few phessies and a couple of bunnies the squirrels are always there....but there is going to come a time when im not going to find.

I do like to hunt on my own to be honest so ferrets may be a bit awkward at times but trying to locate a part/full trained dog is near impossible,i prob could perswade one of my mates to come along for the ferreting but im in a bit of a dilema at the moment...What do you lads/lasses use

.

THANKS

I go out on my own like you mate but i dont bother with rabbit's..if i did i would find it pretty hard ferreting and trying to fly the bird at the same time..to be productive and stress free you really need some one to do the ferreting for you..

I do however take a terrier with me for fushing game bird's from cover if needed..because once them game bird's in cover spot the hawk they very rarely break for cover on there own free will.. i have seen me nearly stand on pheasant's some day's rather than them take flight..and i can't imagine how many i have missed in the past when not taking the dog..

it would be advisable to see what he is like with dogs as some bird hate them if not bought up and manned around them my female will only accept my 16 year old lurcher when we are out if i take the spaniel she has a hissy fit and wont concentrate on hunting.

I have had plenty of success on well stocked land without dogs, I know you also have with the big fella . dogs can be a real asset but certainly not a essential when Hawking. at the moment the land I'm flying is bordering on useless in this area but in the past I had some pretty marked success walking up or ferreting.

Must get matey on some Bunny's soon bud, I'll be flying him late in the season to make sure, my track record is I have not had a male refuse them yet so I'm not starting now. also will have Millet down somtime after xmas to get him on a few  ....
