BEARINATOR 2,872
True Dymented, a russell will do for ferreting and bushing the rabbits or a terrier/spaniel or terrier/beagle cross 1 Quote Link to post
lmv123 1
when i was younger i went out with them all terrier wise ferreting from patterdales ,borders and lakelands and have never seen out like the russell bitch do border terriers have good noses because back then i didnt rate them Quote Link to post
lawrence 657
but you would be better of with a small lurcher. 1 Quote Link to post
BEARINATOR 2,872
I've seen some borders with terrific noses and others that wouldn't hunt, same with all breeds though. As Lawrence said maybe a little beddy/whippet or similar Quote Link to post
jhiggins 48
I use a boarder cross patterdale dog for my ferreting. Hes quick as lightning and terrified of the ferrets, ideal. He is a bit keen at the moment, disturbing nets and such, but i wouldnt go without him now. Hope this helps Quote Link to post

silverhob 0
i use a russell, exellent little marker and obedient to! Quote Link to post
wirral countryman 2,110
IMV123,any terrier off parents working that have a good nose will work what you want it for,the main thing is nose,a dog that can't follow scent is a waste of time and get it out bushing early to encourage it on the rabbits, preferably with some dogs already doing it.I've had most terrier breeds and there's not much difference in any of them for tats and rabbits,I use plummer's and plummer/russells myself and they catch more than the lurchers some days, good luck with your choice,WM Quote Link to post
