Guest Ditch_Shitter
Ok: A Ditch Shitter wants to build a wooden pallisade fence. The fence is 31' Long. 4' High. It's to be made of 4" planks with 4" spaces between each plank. How many feet of plank does the Ditch Shitter need? Now; I should point out that this is all purely sunday afternoon hypothesis. I'm assuming they do four inch planks in Eire ~ or anywhere, come to that. If anyone in here and over here has more experiance and knows, eg. I'll end up working with 3 1/2" planks, please do warn us so I can adjust my question. I only tend to use 7" planks here just now and the builders merchant and saw mill are both miles away and shut. Thankyou.

Guest Ditch_Shitter
Blimey! Cheers for that, lads. Waz77; I've no idea how you arrived at that figure. But a swift once over on the Calculator shows it matches Bry's 62 X 4' Planks = 248' of planking Just goes to show how thick I am. An hour of pencil sucking and scribbling, with the aid of a bloody calculator, never even brought me close to that figure! Ok. Now the scary bit is when I go down to the yard and ask 'How Much?' ! Hellish lot of wood there, eh?! And That's just the facade! 4" be six foot posts, all along? F*cking Hell! I'm scared. I'm Very scared!

waz77 15
Hang on a sec DS, right the first foot will have 2 planks n a gap but the second foot will have 2 gaps n a plank so thats 1.5 planks per foot x 31=46.5 x 4 =186' i think,[bANNED TEXT] u reckon?
Russell 0
47 x 4"planks x 4ft each = 188ft of planks - if bought in multiples of 4ft / 8ft / 16ft. (you will only need 3 planks in every 2ft) Edited April 8, 2007 by Russell

Russell 0
Waz 4" plank/ 4" gap/ 4" plank = 12 inches yer? 2 planks per 12 " x 31 = 62 ? Nooo it's not - in the next 12 inches it will be 4" gap - 4" plank - 4" gap - so only 1 plank for the second 12" - then back to 2 planks for the next 12".
