I was going to do this a few months back, but was told the roads are full of agency employed Eastern Europeans... was also told this has made the wages have drop like hell, and for me the relatively high risk of driving a HGV on today's packed roads is worth far more than minimum wage. One of my mates drives for a successful waste management company on the skips and sceptic tanks, and they've just cut back their staff levels to the bone. Another of my mates has had to start working away from his family in his native Scotland because of the chronic lack of HGV jobs round here, and we're surrounded by refineries, quarries and heavy industry. He applied for a job with a refinery a while back and they expected him to drive a class one full of refined petrol for minimum wage.

Maybe it's different in other areas though..

cant blame them they've raped the construction industry.

Passed my hgv test at 18

Mate. Theory test wasn't too hard so

Don't get yourself worried

About it. Practical test was a b@stard as you've got to make sure your actions don't

Affect otter drivers by slowing them

Down at junctions because of re trailer

Etc

I thought you had to be 21yr old to drive a HGV.. :hmm:

Not if your military pal

You get waver and do your C+E as one course.

Im MT so bit of sad cnut that way lol

 I done c, then c+e.

When you do pass be prepared for a eye opener.Idiot car drivers, pedestrians, stress, gaffers shouting & balling at you.My main advice apart from don't do it  is don't work for a family run company, they'll work you to death for sh*t money & expect you to work all the hours they do.

Get a start with an agency if possible then you'll get a good idea of what job within this godforsaken industry suits you....as you can tell i really love it :D

Ive had some of the worst jobs possible working for 4 quid an hour , grafting in a massive freezer for 9 hours a day

i dont think shit money will put me off
