digger. 615
Was out with my diging mate a few year back and we had a terrier to ground in a bad spot.We dug to the dog and we were just saying how lucky we were that we did not hit roots or rock which is all over this earth. We lifted the dog let the game out and it re entered so we started to backfill. My mates lurcher,a wheaton halfx was tied and was kicking up a racket so he decided to let her off. After a couple of min i noticed the bitch was missing and on further inspection she could be heard bumping around under the ground and guess where,in the f*****g bad part of the earth. After a long time we dug to her with the game just up in front a few feet, she had pushed so far but could not quite make contact,i would say if she had she would have drew it as she was a very game bitch for her size. That was the 1st time she ever went to ground and after that became a nuicance as you could dig,let the game run walk 2 fields away and let the bitch off and she was straight back to the earth, she finished her days on the lamp with no daytime hunting at all. thats my only worry mate when out mooching he will hit the ground as he has a good nose and baits true cover like a f****n springer.out at night iv no worrys with him as he is always on the slip and straight bak. jigsaw 11,899
dug this mutt out twice, many years ago.He was 5/8 greyhound 3/8 pit and a very honest dog.We dug him 10 feet out into the field first time and he coursed a fox another day that shot to ground and when we got there he was gone in too. dug this bitch another day(I know its not a lurcher). She was only 2-3 feet from the game when we located her. Bosun11 537
keep at them lads kill kill kill Is that what it's all about... then I must have been in the wrong game for the past 30 years..? Mate of mine had a first cross Beddy Grey years back, a very handy mutt to have around a hole but those terrier instincts kicked in after a few years and it would fly to ground as fast as his terriers, would go deep too. Got sick of digging it to the point where it became a fecking nusance and was left at home during the day. He still lamped it, till one night he lost it, went through a wood after sommat & never came back, always had an idea of its fate... Quote Link to post
