bert69 5
Just a small note to say a massive thankyou to Stuart aka Caprelous for taking the time to let me wander round some of his permissions in the scottish borders in search of my first Roe. Unfortunately, my luck wasn't in over 6 stalks but i saw deer on every stalk, however, some i bumped in my inexperience (looking the wrong way or generally too fast) a couple couldn't be sexed and a couple didn't have sufficient backstop. Stalking roe in spruce plantation is a world away from my normal fallow in deciduous woodland/ arable farmland! i learned alot and have luckily been invited back. Stuart is an absoloute gent as is his good friend Andrew, together they have a wealth of knowledge on their quarry and it's habitat and i hope to learn alot more on my next visit. The stalking cost me nothing, all that was asked of me was a couple of days working in the forest helping to make the place more stalkable and generally a more deer friendly environment. This i thoroughly enjoyed and find it heartening that no amount of money could buy you into this situation, the only way you get in is to actually put yourself out and do a bit. Living in the southeast where every little bit of oppurtunity is either sewn up or is an absoloute free for all and having my only decent bit of stalking wrecked by some little city dwelling herbert, i think Stuart and Andrew's idea is superb. It is fantastic to know that some people out there actually care for their sport and are actively encouraging other people to get involved thereby giving something back to the sport that has given them so much rather than just keeping it all to themselves and/or trying to make a fast buck (excuse the pun) at every corner. A fantastic job chaps and i can't wait to come back. Kind regards, Luke. 1 Quote Link to post

Canadian Black Bears 23
I read an earlier topic by someone who Stuart offered a new hunter the same thing. Maybe it was bert69? Stuart also has been very helpful to myself in trying to understand the hunting there compared to the hunting, here, in Nova Scotia. From what little I have seen on this forum, this gentleman is indeed a true outdoorsman who has vast knowledge of his craft. Stuart, if only all hunters/outfitters were true to their profession like yourself, the world would be a much better place. You are a true gentlemen and the main reason I enjoy hunting/outdoors forums such as this. My hat comes off to you ..Safe Hunting mate, we can all learn from stories like this. Rob Quote Link to post
Caprelous 217
Gents you will have me blushing I am glad that Luke ( Bert 69 ) Enjoyed his experience with both myself and Andrew and I most certainly look forward to meeting him again. unfortunately although we did see quite a few deer whilst out circumstances didnt lead to a successful end to the stalk but hopefully next time Luke comes up he will connect, Both Andrew and myself do try help would be new comers into the sport and offer this open oppurtunity into stalking free well really its not free really as its a condition that a participant helps in our wildlife habitat program in converting an area of wood land that was previously unstalkable into one that all forms of wildlife benefit and obviously the spin off is we can now see deer and control them whereas before we could not. All those who participate must be in a situation where they have no stalking of there own ,18 years of age and less than 30 and are prepared to assist us,Also they must be insured either through B.A.S.C or other, in return both myself and stalking partner in this enterprise will endevour to teach you the art of deerstalking. Obviously as can be appreciated i have been flooded with requests and will need to restrict those who wish to take part in the scheme . As stated many thanks for the kind comments. Kind Regards Stuart Edited December 20, 2011 by Caprelous 1 Quote Link to post

Caprelous 217
Just trying to tie up a few loose ends for another young chap to take out on our program, hopefully in the next few weeks we should have another young chap with sufficient interest to take up stalking and Wildlife Management. Its very satisfying to me seeing new chaps coming into the sport , both Andrew and myself feel as long as the situation dosent get abused hopefully we will continue with the program and these lads will continue to help us and learn as they go along and all those who take part in our scheme will benefit both now and in the future. We are trying hard to make stalking available to those who can least afford it especially in these trying times that we are facing.. Cheers Stu Hope you all have had a good Christmas and you all got what you wanted, Wife got me a pair of Seeland waterproof trouses but they will have to go back as I am now getting a fat b*****d and the size I told her was incorrect Still cant get it right all the time, my fault Edited December 26, 2011 by Caprelous Quote Link to post
