gnasher16 30,025
Every year i love these threads! . . . . Putting a coat on a dog thats being lead walked in shit weather DOES NOT make you gay . . . what it will do is ensure the dogs muscles are kept warmed whilst exercising. First thing that gets thrown over a race horse once its crossed the line as is walked down is a coat . . . . because they are weak, pathetic, soft??? No because they are worth a huge amount of money and anyone with an ounce of sense or knowledge will know that hot muscles cooling too quickly will cause strains and chills. Comparing a peaked out prize winning racehorse ......to taking ol Rover to the field to chase a ball is hardly a fair comparison ! I have a fast car but i dont put tyre warmers on to go down the shops the way a formula 1 pit crew do for a race ! Edited December 15, 2011 by gnasher16

mintstick999 485
I work on the basis that, if i was coming out of a centrally heated house, (and mine do, they all live in) i'd feel the cold, so i put a coat on, when i reach the place i want to run the dogs, the dogs get a ten minute run around, then the coats come off, because by then their normally panting and don't need them anymore, shit side of it is, i get to carry the buggers for the rest of the mooch mags the deerhound x doesn't wear one, unless it's road work on a very cold & wet day. I've never had a dog cramp up yet, so if it works for you and your dogs carry on. but i'd like to ask,!!!............. how many of you guys that go out lamping, do it without a coat on??? not many answers to this lol   ok here's mine.... Don't keep a dog 'in' the house ffs and it won't need an extra coat on!!You'll find coats on www.mydogsapussy.com You obviously don't no me very well, I've always wanted kennels in the back garden, but the other half won't let me, :cray:so mine live indoors like millions of other peoples dogs, what's your problem with that then mate.? Lee is quite correct i was pulling your leg.....kind off!! I do 100% think that all dogs should be in a kennel though. Far less hassle for a start, far less mess, house doesn't stink, no chance of wrecking the place. Quick question....do you ever feel that the dog gets to hot in the house? My grandad used to let the dogs come into the house but around 8/9 every night the dogs would make there way up to there kennel without him saying so... The only advantage of keeping them in the house nowadays is it prevents they theiving b*****ds getting there hands on them, oh it might make you feel a bit better in the winter months....
Cold Ethyl 63
2 of my 3 wear coats in this weather only for on lead walks though they dont run with them.Donut the pup lost a lot of weight and we struggled to keep it on her cos she was shivering a lot out on a walk since getting the coat shes put weight on and kept it on.Storm needs one cos hes bald just about lol very little hair on him at all and he has baldy bum syndrome as well.Flint has the most waterproof fur in a dog ive ever seen so dont bother her not having one although ive ordered her a rain jacket anyway. They all live in the house cos thieves and i like my pack to be around me and the kids etc.Just my own preferance there although when i move i want kennels for the foster dogs so mine dont get put out too much by having a strange dog around.I do admit i wash mine every month so the house doesnt smell like a kennel and if you hoover a lot then it all stops that smell and the dog hair lying about. What does burst my box is Flint in heat cos ive never got a fecking mop more than 5 yards from my hands. B.P.R 2,798
lab, id love to have kennels out the back. ive moved quite recently and next year when i get married i will be moving again. and maybe after that moving again! so for me to spend the money building kennels out the back and then moving 12 months later is a waste of money. some places 'such as army married quarters' would frown upon having dogs out the back and some of the snotty b@stards would complain so you had no choice to put the dogs in. the other half wants them in but im sure if i had my way then theyd be out. my dads dogs have always lived out and i can see the positives but then a dog living indoors can do the same job etc. i dont notice my house smelling and the new landlord commented on how 'non doggy' the house smelt. if you clean up regularly and clean the dogs down after a day/night out then i can see any difference. i agree with you on the getting hot side, same as we do. they do seem to get a little hot and bothered sometime at nights when the fires on but nothing a quick 10 mins in the garden doesnt sort. horses for courses really. id have them outside but if they was out, id be out there with them
mintstick999 485
My reply to you Lab, it won't let me post in a quote for some reason, so i've had to put it down here mate. In answers to your question, yes they do get hot in the house sometimes, but then they go and lie somewhere cooler, I would of given my back teeth to have a row of kennels in my garden to save the every day mess, but as i'm coming out of racing my dogs in the near fucture, it would be a waste of time now,... i envy people who can do like your grandad did, but like you said at least mine won't ever get stolen, i'm always with them, 24/7 so they'd have to take me too, :boogy:NO FUCKERS THAT STUPID. lurchergrrl 1,441
I love having kennels ... only got them this summer tho. Dogs sleep out, but they're in during the day when I'm home. Times like this when I'm busy cleaning and seeing to the kids tho, I chuck 'em out. The set up suits them and suits me. Their coats have adjusted well, and obviously I've upped their food to see them through the cold nights. The whippet does wear a fleece when the temp is close to the freezing mark. I never put coats on them when I'm walking them. Our walks consists of rapid road walking, an hour or so mooching, then more road walking home. They get back to a warm hose, a rub down and a small meal. That's not to say I don't understand why some folks use them - I do, I just can't be arsed to carry a coat while I'm hopping fences and traipsing through cover so they make do without. Wind, rain, snow, hail ... they're used to it all.
Cold Ethyl 63
I have to admit its a bit of a pain when we get to where they run and then you have to walk round with the jackets in your hand but its worth it i have my hall tiled so if they get to hot they just go lay in the hall.Storm wont bother in wet or snow or even really cold weather but hes literally got a pelt rather than fur and its been thinning for ages.Had him tested for everything in the vets thinking he was ill and theres nothing wrong with him hes just weird lol.His bum and thighs went bald and now hes thinning out all over hes on a mix in his dinner with kelp and stuff in it and vitapet oil as well and decent food and it did get better then it kind of started falling out again so god only knows
