How old is too old

Recommended Posts

Whin wrote the wee pup off when he seen her at Selkirk, broken leg, looking like a bag of sh!t. Exact words 'get rid of that dog, it's fcuked, will never run again, get yourself a proper dog'. My arse.

Took it on the chin, dog will come right I'm sure.

veedublee, i saw her at selkirk , hows she getting on , i read about the other mishap, i told you mine broke both bones in front leg , he was'nt rushed , has recovered brilliantly too, even catching game now too , so all i can say , time the best healer

If you look at your dogs as pets first and workers second then you'll probably think along the lines of Vee. If you think of your dogs as workers then you'll probably think like Whin. No right, no wro

Don,t sweat it mate , you,v got lots and lots and lots and lots of time.

To be honest mate, if you have spent all this time when she has been confined etc, getting a good bond with her and making her responsive, getting good recall etc, then you are half way there.   She

Well i'm worker first then pet second mate. I wouldn't pts one if it didnt make the grade....id try and rehome it as a pet hopefully to a friend. Luckily i haven't had that problem yet but i haven't had many dogs myself. I do have two 2 year old pups at the moment and one is testing my f*****g patience!!!.. :censored:

On the other hand i have grown up with my Dad racing greyhounds and maybe one of many stayed its lifetime in the kennel.

Your not going to spend thousands of pounds on a racing greyhound and it might never make the grade anyway...i would however re-mortgage my house to save my big lab if he got a serious injury!!...

Can understand that Lab,, just had to put down yin oh ma spaniels,, fekin torture,, he was bought for working,, and was a wee shite,, but by f**k yeh get attached to them,, poor bugger was only 5 annaw

Like I say, Whins dogs a re tool for working,,, he can`t get the concept of a pet dog,, no fault to that, but it can upset a lot af folk that get attached to their dogs,,

Well mate Buzz is 6 and a top dog. Not alot to do with my training i dont think he just has it in him. Had many a top remark made about him from people who know there stuff and if i lost him tomorrow i'd cry my f*****g eyes out.... :cray::laugh:

I'd never fault Whin for his style of dog work.....he's exactly like my Dad and many on here by the way. The dog is there to do a job, if it cant do that job to a standard they expect then its pts. No f*****g about no lost sleep. And anyone who may think thats harsh would change there mind when they see what the dogs sleeping quarters are, what they are fed and what treatments they recieve. You get out what you put in....

I take on board what everybody says. I understand the way whin sees things, he is just like my father is. The negative comments are actually his way of advice and encouragement. It's hard not to take what he says to heart, I

Know the wee dogs not the greatest

Built, not the best type nor has she had the best start but I've got faith in her. After what I said on another thread about not wanting to take help from whin, I apologise for that. Just caught me at a bad time. Don't mind putting in a graft or doing the sh!try jobs to get our learning. My dogs are pets first then workers second. The day might come when that changes but it won't be until the dogs I have got now are long gone or until I get another dog purely

100% for working. I have the option to get another dog for the purpose and keep what I have now as pets but why should I give up on her so soon. She's 7months, a cracking wee dog and part of the family. Maybe or day but only once I'm certain she's not going to do what I want. Might not get another, the options always there, no rush

Veedublee, in the Working Whippet book 2010 there is an article by a paul waddington who has a bitch whippet called star

in it, he says the bitch broke its leg at three months, it was pinned, it appears the bitch is now a useful worker.

hope this gives you encouragement.
