Guest JDF
i do alot of maintenance work for the heritage end of the doe through the company that i work for but this morning brought up something unusual. a nature resevre has a wildflower garden that is taking a bit of a hammering from rabbits so the warden asked would i be interested in a spot of ferreting.arrived at seven to have a look around, all the holes are dead bar a little one holer under a shed, had the pup along for his first trip also.netted up the hole and a quick in and out from the ferret showed nothing at home,in all took one hour but i'm booked in for four mentioned that as there's plenty of cover around and it's very warm at the moment the rabbits are probably above ground so now i've got to go back with the lamp and rifle, should be good for six hours there ps now i'm getting paid does this make me a pest controller Quote Link to post

Guest little_lloyd
If there above ground walk around the patch and they should bolt into the warrens, then net em up Quote Link to post

OldTrapCollector 377
If there above ground walk around the patch and they should bolt into the warrens, then net em up LL - Surely it would be easier to net the holes and then walk the rabbits into the nets? Going in rather than coming out . . . backnetting I call it. I doubt it would work in this particular case as the rabbits don't appear to living underground, but I have used it hundreds of times myself, especially when a large strip of game cover flanks a large woodland bury - a walk in before ferreting gives the bury time to quiten down after netting up and gives a few bonus rabbits before the ferrets are even out of their boxes. You have to make sure that you see them go though otherwise all there is left is a peg and tight drawcord disappearing down the hole - easily missed. OTC Quote Link to post
Guest JDF
spot on OTC,it looks like the only option is lamp and rifle, just to much cover for them. the burrows look like they haven't been used in years. Quote Link to post
Guest little_lloyd
Backnetting my mate and myself where going to do this at night in this situation where the rabbits are above ground! I think you should get out there with the lamp and rifle and good luck :thumbs-up: Quote Link to post
