Tbh he knows very well the UK's feelings towards Europe, possibly not so much 'his' line in the sand as 'ours'. Support for Europe must be at an all time low in these Isles, he's already had a hard enough time recently as it is with his decisions on Britains part in Europe, I doubt he wanted the headache of making another pro-Europe decision. I should have said "The line in the sand" If he'd have conceded he'd not have only risked a huge public backlash, he'd also get a large one from within the ranks of his own party IMO. With so much dissension among the back benchers etc, he'd have risked too much to go against them? Maybe I'm jaundiced, but to me, all these people are only out to cover their own backs. You're right, although he's probably risked upsetting the massively pro EU Lib Dems who they are in coalition with. Today they're just front men. That's all they ever should be IMO. Politics is a fine balance between doing whats right for the country and doing whats right for your career, which are sometimes mutually exclusive. But equally without having a good career a poltician will never be in a position to do whats right for the country..... Regardless of his motives he made the right decision so I'll give him a "well done" on this occasion but hes gonna have to do alot more to earn respect and trust. 2 Quote Link to post Share on other sites
