Jamie m 668
Unnecessary suffering? Were talking about ferrets killing rabbits, not tying the rabbit up and skinning it alive. What happens in the wild when a polecat kills a rabbit? I do get what your saying though, no need to up the tone Jamie. People have different views and I've seen on this post the benefits of a locator so mines off to get fixed. Doesn't mean I won't go without one again. I'm going for a bit tomorrow without, and will do until mine comes Back. What happened in days gone by when I wasn't even on this planet? Locators, collars weren't even around? Is that still unnecessary suffering? I don't think it is, but thats yor view and your not wrong same as I'm not right. Different views Yep agreed mate , I don't meen dead rabbits I mean ones in stop ends tight up that won't budge ,????????? I only really work ferrets which are stayers now not every trip out they end up in stop ends , but with some days and situations that's what happens , now if i was just out for a mooch on mr tod wouldn't be fussed about much like your saying , but ferreting for land owners they want results , and besides unwed the numbers as I dont really shoot and the animals need feeding , and if poss not dry , Quote Link to post
B.P.R 2,798
Good points there. Ive not had any problems not using a locator but i guess my luck might run out at some point. I'm definitely not one of those people who disregard ferrets, each one of my Hobs cost me £60 to get castrated and I've got 3 and a Jill who's spayed. I value my ferrets and wouldn't want to lose one. For me ferreting is a sport, a nice way to spend the day with the dog(soon as her legs better) and a mate out doing what I enjoy. Money just seems to be the main factor in most things now. After your comments I've just Posted my locator off to mick Dadds to get fixed Good decision, well done. Got my box back the other day. All fixed and working apparently. The bugger robbed the battery out of It Got out in the garden to try it out and it wouldnt pick up the collar..... Fecks Sake. I paid £70 for the collar and box, £25 to have the box fixed and now I'm Going to have to pay Mick Dadds £40+postage for a new collar!!!! £135 on a mk1 when a mk3 is only £150-160. I'm fooking livid. Country Joe 1,411
This is an age story, i was out ferreting a fortnight ago, when the hob and jill came out of a deep warren together, i noticed that that the jill had no collar, I decided she must have lost it on a tree root, i had a good look round but no sign, I then used the mark 1 locator, and the only place i got a signal was next to a fence reading 4ft, after a lot of digging I gave up, was that sick fed up, i packed in and went home. at home i put my hand in my pocket, and found the collar, I hadn't put it on the Jill, theres a lesson to you all out there. 1 Quote Link to post

reddawn 2,173
iv always used jills as bolters an never really had any problems with lay ups or anything, but it annoyed me hearing the squeals of a bunny an knowing id have to leave it, so i bought a locator a few seasons ago an got meself a big hob, i used him like an old fashioned liner, but without the line, if i heard a squeal i sent him down an dug him out, was quite impressed, then at start of this season i got another hob to look after an he was a demon of a ferret, stick a collar on him an let him an within minutes you was digging him out haha, a good few member of this site have seen this hob work before an since iv had him, anyways i have a few younger jills here, this years young, bred from a long line a bolting ferrets an i have used them alongside the rambo hob he has jacked so to speak had lost the desire to work in past few weeks, dont know why, but if he dont buck his ideas up soon he wont have a place in the box anymore so when he started messing last week, i put the collar on 1 of my young jills an got a dig withing 10 mins, had a few digs that day to her even tho bunnys were bolting aswell, i have tried the collar on the other 2 jills an have dug them out aswell in the last week, so i can safely say, im a convert Edited December 27, 2011 by reddawn Quote Link to post

Guest vin
Ive spent way too many days freezing my nuts off waiting for ferrets when I was a nipper..I bought my locator before the ferrets this time and Its probably the best money ive spent for getting the job done. Theres nothing better than going a couple of spade lengths down to a bunny up a stop end and getting a few bonus bunnies out at same time..In the good old days you would be playing the waiting game..Sod that ! going out without one is possible but not practical.
