woodga 170
sounds like it could be the kidneys or a bladder problem i would look to a vet mate to be sure Quote Link to post
BRAN 0
Had this before, took dog to the vet. The vet a game old sort, said this wasn't to be fretted too much over, he enquired about how much running the dog had had, and explained it in the simplest lay man's terms that it was similar to a young lad being broke in on a building site, his hands will bleed because they're soft. My dog in question peed blood after his first long course, it had no effect on his performance again, in fact it in some ways made him, as the race was in the dog, never no problems again. tote 856
More imformation would help Terrier Stuff. When he/she was out today did it have a tumble or fall or collide with anything that could of caused damage to the kidneys? Are there any other symptoms? Loss of appetite-vomiting-increased thirst-increased urinating- sensitivity in the back area-pain around the kidney area when pressure is applied-dehydration- does the dog urinate flow normal-or is it straining and passing a few drops-how long has it been urinating blood-how old is the dog. Normally a dog shouldn;t suffer kidney trouble untill it is over 8 years old. There are a few things which could cause blood in the urine, -food poisining -kidney stones -a sharp blow like a collision or a kick -cystitis -nephritis[inflammation of the kidneys] How is the dogs general appearance,If he looks well in himself I'd just keep an eye on it,if his general appearance goes downhill as in looking listless it would be worth giving the vet a ring to ask for some advice. He looks fine I think it is because he is unfit and a little over-weight and it was a hard run. Thanks Quote Link to post
mark.a 0
Seen it alot with unfit dogs or even fit ones after long courses on the fens ,I,am no vet but it ussually clears up within a day. Dogs need to be built up gradually, its like expecting a human to do a marathon after jogging round a field occasionally, dogs may look fit but they have to be built up inside, a human ussually knows when to stop, most dogs will run till they drop! Kye 77
It may LOOK like blood, but it isnt...its usuly proteins from the body being past out as waste...get it alot on dogs run in the desert on long hard courses on hares...just rest him up and make sure he has access to water...nowt to worry about. Like yourself seen it plenty of times with the coursing dogs it even effects the fittest of dogs when they get a long hard course.....they would piss blood that day but it was clear by the next day.....although one of the dogs began pissing blood regularly and it did turn out to have Kidney problems! juckler123 707
coursing dogs sometimes pee blood when theyve had a lengthy course or three ive seen it in dogs that are well fit when theyve been running hard according to one vet i spoke to which i think might be the reason is the kidneys banging if one of mine does it i cook some pearl barley and add it to its food helps flush the kidneys Quote Link to post
