johnny boy68 11,726
In todays climate where bunnies are the only legal quarry to run you shouldn't need to go back to a track dog to bring in pace.......plenty of lurchers got that type of pace to breed in. 3 Quote Link to post
Guest born to run1083
who on here has bred/worked good lurchers that are bred directly from track dogs/bitches??? whos had nothing but shite out of them?? id like to hear all the good and bad points, what you all KNOW FOR A FACT AS YOU SEEN IT YOURSELF, not what some tom, dick or harry did 20 years ago lol so this topic only concerns people who have had/bred dogs with half or more greyhound in them, so please dont post about lurcher x lurcher, etc I wouldn't rate her as good but she's shown up a due experienced dogs is my first x collie grey , sire was the greyhound. As a worker she ain't to bad she will catch well on the lamp take squatters, jumps great. Great stamina will run all night or day And even tho I go once in a blue moon marks sets now and bushes through the bramble like a terrier and follows lines well, she will nail Charlie if there on offer. There her plus sides the negitives is her personality outside of the field she's a right sensitive fecker. If you up set her you know about it. Can drive me mad. She's a funny animal but I put that down to the collie in her that was the dam. although she has already taken over 200 rabbits her first season I won't have another there like a women on the leak. Prefer a more stable animal lol Edited December 7, 2011 by born to run1083 Quote Link to post
Stabs 3
The sire to this dog was a track dog and I've never had any dramas with his feet and you have you bear in mind that I run some truly atrocious land which ranges from baked hard and cracked, dusty flats to forest and swamp. His dam had good feet though and I suppose he inherited those from her. Not saying he's better than a lurcher to lurcher cross; just merely saying that he's got very good feet that withstand everything he's encountered so far. I guess a lot depends on what you start with. If you've got suspect or average feet, crossing to a greyhound ain't necessarily going to cure you're shortcomings. Quote Link to post
whin 463
when you bred greyhounds in you need to try them first and make sure the lurcher has feet worth breeing for , i prefer the bigger grews than a greyhond nowadays Quote Link to post
