luketallentire 0
anyone got any good tips on keeping the hutches warmer through the winter? thanks Quote Link to post
jessythewhippet 25
A bit of petrol and a match Quote Link to post
ferret333 747
Plenty of bedding- woodshavings, hay , straw , old blankets, that sort of thing. Some times i cover the hutch with a old bed sheet to stop the draft and to stop the rain soaking the inside. Also its better to have more than one ferret as they will sleep togther and keep warm Quote Link to post
kevin from bristol 95
a bit more bedding and double them up what you need to do more than anything is insulate the water bottle if you use one as it will frezze in no time Quote Link to post
Country Joe 1,411
The sleeping compartment in mine is insulated, with ply over the insulation, makes a difference. Quote Link to post
drummer-ben 0
Insulation around the hutch Inc the top and plastic sheet wrapped round it, just have to lift it back up in the morning so they get light :-) plus extra bedding. Quote Link to post
Brian-911 210
Bought a plastic sheet walk in green house, and put them in there yesterday stops all rain and drafts plus stops me getting soaked throughout the winter whilst cleaning them out and can put other bits and bobs in there too. Then when summer comes back outside and I got me greenhouse for plants. Ideal for 60 notes I think Quote Link to post

matt241075 12
cover the water bottles with a few old socks to stop them freezeing.......... Quote Link to post
masmiffy 82
Before I housed mine in a converted shed, which I had insulated floor and all, I used to fix foil backed polystyrene underlay to the outside of their hutches. But basically as has been said plenty of bedding and anything to stop draughts, most important is to keep the water supply form freezing thats never easy! Quote Link to post
Tug 168
Don't bother insulating the bottles, the stainless spout will freeze anyway which will stop your ferrets drinking anyway. Just keep a spare bottle in the house and swap it out a few times a day. Quote Link to post
DanRaistrick 53
Lukey boy, dont worry about the cold, Reg's fat will keep them all warm hahah Quote Link to post
stroller 341
wet is the big enemy keep their bedding dry i change mine every week this time of year as mine have access to an outside run and their big hutch is fairly open, but i have four who sleep together and at the minute they look like bears so they dont seem to get chilled at all Quote Link to post
