SON OFF SHAM 34 Posted December 5, 2011 Report Share Posted December 5, 2011 (edited) Take the head of any spade and get a length of steel welded onto it for the shaft along with a steel handle. Good solid spade for digging with and it will not break on you. Any welder will have it done in less than 10 mins and will only cost you a few quid, but will last for years. SON OFF SHAM 34 Posted December 5, 2011 Report Share Posted December 5, 2011 Tube mate bar would be too heavy. That's the way I have all my tools made spades grafters and shovels. If your using the head of a general wooden shafted spade I'd recommend grinding a few inches of the end off the head and then sharpening the tip. That way there's less play or bend on the head and it will come in handy for chopping threw roots you may meet on the way down. Atb Quote Link to post
budgie123 163 Posted December 5, 2011 Report Share Posted December 5, 2011 British Bulldog do a Spade Called a rabbiting spade with a fibreglass shaft.My mate has one and it is an excellent spade and the shaft is superb.My mate is an animal with a spade and puchased this one after breaking numerous wooden shafted spades.He has had this one for years.just placed an order for one bit expensive £57 but you get what you pay for.
