Lennard 10 Posted April 5, 2007 Report Share Posted April 5, 2007 (edited) Dear all, What would be an alternative for a Sparrowhawk if you want sport with say blackbirds, starlings, jacks and magpies in woody and park like landscape? Its is illegal to keep or even transport native birds of prey in captivity in this country, apart from gos and peregrine for which you need 1 of the 200 available falconer licenses. Sparrowhawks are pretty common here so I could find, raise and train one but I can never handle the bird in comfort. I would sink through the ground if I had it confiscated. What would be a non-west-european species that one can find at breeders in Europe that catches the same quarry as a Sparrowhawk and that is not untrainable. L. If you go to Spain the Central American Bi Coloured Hawk is the same size as a Spar but a little more heavy and the biggest difference is its natural steady tempermeant! Spanish falconers say it is faster in level flight and will wed onto one quarry ie Magpies!,but they are expensive around £1500 for a female! He's a mate of mine and now also on this Forum under the user name Gos6, talk to him nicley and he'll sort out a coopers for you ....
