NEWKID 27,216
Was fishing the tidal stretch of my river one evening running a stick float through for chub/roach and I hook a salmon. after 5 mins or so of running up and down the river after it the enevitable happens and my 2lb hooklength snaps. " Unlucky mate" I hear and look around to see a bloke with a dead fish in one hand and rod in the other. I clamber up the bank and see this prick has killed a 4-5lb chub. He was fishing prawn for salmon and caught the chub. " why the fu*k did you kill it" I ask " I didn't know what it was, so I thought I'd take it home for my cat" was his reply He didn't appreciate my reply and made a quick exit, you get some right knobs thats for sure. The second reply on the first post is from Dave Harrell is it the same Dave Harrell who was one of the best river match men ever, seen him fish a few times, quality. Quote Link to post

Elmer_Fudd 28
I have fishing experience all over the UK, Ireland and further afield, Pike are the natural cleaning staff of a water way much preferring a dead fish and stuff they can take that is injured. Furthermore they are also a determent to certain birds which may impact on the water, same with cat fish and zander. the eco balance is called such because of the balance provided by I.E PIKE. I found losing a match winning fish to a pike shit, but my god it was some the best days out when you catch a 20lb plus one... and to be honest RE the girl, more females in the sport is not a bad thing something weird about meeting a load of middle aged me on an abandoned stench of canal, pool bank or river haha Quote Link to post
fin and fur 2
It really is unbelievable that such ignorance is still displayed by some people. I well remember a trip to Blagdon a few years back and as we were loading up the boat for a days trout fishing i spotted a Jack Pike in the boat dock. As i was discussing the fish with ny boat partner the Baliff overheard and came over to look, i carried on loading the boat only to look up and see the Baliff net the Pike and smash the net down hard on the concrete path around the boat dock. I gave him a right mouthful and complained to Bristol Water regarding his conduct. I would have thought i would have got a better response from them as they sell tickets for pike fishing at their other Res Chew Vallet Lake, however i was told that at Blagdon the pike are regarded as vermin, what a sad attitude.
