On a different note I love driving automatics so much less hassle....must be getting old
mintstick999 485
Always drove manuals and hated automatics until i drove one, ( deffo a lazy person car) brilliant if you ask me, but i'm now back to a bloody manual, and i hate it. Personally i think it depends on your age, you don't see many younger guys in an automatic, not cool.
irishnut 297
on the plus side, autos are usually better spec, don't know why, but they tend to have few better bits. both my cars are auto, i had auto only license until recently, but can't see me getting a manual, just because i'm now allowed to drive it. The Duncan 802
I had my first auto a few years back - an Audi A4 2.4. Fab car easy to drive and quick off the line too. Thirsty? couple of mpg worse than a manual. Now got a Jaguar 3.0 S type, again, a couple of mpg down on the manual, but it still averages between 25 and 28 mpg, 35+ on a longer run at near legal speeds. Wouldn't have a manual again now, unless it was 2 litres or less. I've tried a couple of cars that were 1.8 and 2.0 auto's , but they were slow and noisy, not good. IMHO, if youre getting an auto, ideally a V5 or V6 engine will be infinitely more satisfying than an inline 4 of moderate capacity. Cheers D.

rob190364 2,594
Auto definitely makes you a lazy driver, had one once....good for chillin out while driving but I prefer manual definitely. Not sure about MPG, wasn't a noticable difference IMO.
