I think the main reason to the ban is the way culture has evolved there's not the same kind of need to go out and catch your food and now it's looked down upon and seen as an act of cruelty rather then just nature. If the city folk who have never seen a field in there life had there way all forms of hunting would be banned not just coursing. They never could get rabbits banned as there vermin but if that changes and there numbers dropped to a manageable level then we would all be screwed as they'd ban the lot. It'd a shame the way things have gone and in the decade I've only been in the game for I can notice a huge difference to why people are getting involved in field sports

Coursing was ban because people who don't do it and look at it for the outside instead off the inside look at it as a sport as do many on here.The word sport is always said when a coursing topic is bought on here and that is why it was ban because it was brand as a sport a cruel sport as did hunting foxes.The less off the word sport used be better for us all.Either you hunt because you hunt and not just for the sport off it.Its a stupid word sport in the game we are all in.

I doubt that Match Coursing had anything to do with the ban, as the vast proportion of the populace knew nothing about it ! The ban came about because the Labour party wanted to stick it to the "Tory Toff Fox Hunters", and coursing, beagling, mink hunting, etc, were simply unfortunate by-products of the ban ! Yes, the Waterloo Cup was targeted, but that wasn't the same as Match Coursing. Matches have been, and will carry on , being illegaly run. Before the ban many, many, matches were run and very few people heard about them.If I was a Match man these days, I'd be horrified by the hangers on and wannabees advertising matches on here and other sites !

Nothing wrong with a little friendly rivalry,most of the lads shook hands at the end of the day,win,lose or draw,if a few quid was won or lost it made little difference,owning the winner or seeing a good dog or two performing to their best was more important.Its only over the last few years that the petty feuding and bitchfest have ruined a sport that on the whole was conducted away from prying eyes and narrow minded bigots.To many now are more interested in making a name more for themselves than the dog they own.

The irony is that most of the unwashed masses who supported the ban because of the perceived cruelty to animals will eat cheap battery chicken in one form or many, perpetuating a cycle of forced cruelty that goes unchecked.
