skycat 6,173
No worries. Male pups can be very different to bitches. They are just like boys LOL I know that some people will say that a dog is a dog, no more, but all male animals have different hormones to females, and it can make them more challenging. The nice thing is that once you have them trained and bonded with you, and they know what they should be doing in life, they stay that way..........no up and down hormones and mood swings  Yes, you may have to be bit firmer with some male pups, but the most I ever do is grab them by the throat and give them a shake, but only if they are definitely playing me up on purpose. The trick is to recognise when it is just high spirits which need an outlet in play or a good run, or a deliberate bolshy attitude where the pup needs firm but calm handling. Putting a pup on the 'naughty step', in other words, in a kennel or cage, when it gets OTT can be a good way of giving both of you time out and a stress reduction time. Quote Link to post
wippydoo 12
Skycats given you good advice. Can I just also add that castration of a dog isn't the panacea to all ills that people think it is.it can also affect a dogs behaviour adversely in making it fear aggressive towards other dogs due to the cut off of the testosterone hormone but vets don't tell you that as its a nice little earner for them Quote Link to post
oneshot1986 72
If you are seriously considering cutting a 22 week pup because you cant make it behave then maybe dogs aint for you? Put the time into training or give it to someone who will the lad was asking for advice and was doing the right thing for asking they say about us youth today having attitude problems did you read he said no digs because he is NEW to the game and wanted advice he obviously wants dogs he got a dog and he obviously wants to put time into the dog hence why he was asking for advice on here ffs some people arnt born knowing it all unfortunatly 1 Quote Link to post
oldred58 340
you will have to get your dog in hand asap, and at his age he should be seeing plenty off stock by now, the older the dog gets the harder the task, a good slap across the ars with a lead is fine but make sure he feels it,and your tone of vioce should be enough once hes got the message, maybe a more laid back x may have suited you to start, good luck 1 Quote Link to post
