simonrocco 175
i desided to go for a ratch about with the dogs this afternoon so i put them all in the car and then i thought id take the ferrets with me i took my good working jill and one of this years kits which has'nt bolted anything so far so i boxed them up and put them in the car got my nets and spade and off i went the first place i went was to a few fields not to far from home where i have permission its on an old road which is blocked off at one end and gated at the other i parked up and let the dogs out i desided to leave the ferrets in the car for the moment as my terriers dont get on with them i let the terriers ratch through all the brambles and it was'nt long before the terriers started barking and a rabbit bolted out right in front of my lurcher and across the road and into a hole follwed by my lurcher and the terriers so i carried on up the road and the barking started again and when i found where the dogs where they were marking a set i carried on up the road putting up one more rabbit but it got away it ran down the dyke and i didnt see where it went to so i turned round and went down the other side of the road where most of the sets are i didnt put anymore rabbits up and the dogs didnt show any intrest in the sets other than the one where the rabbit went into earlyer so i went back to the car and put the dogs in and got the ferrets out and nets and spade i went to the first set where i chased one into it was only a 2 holer i tried the kit but it wouldnt go in it was just messing around at the hole so i put the older jill in with it and a few seconds later i had a rabbit in the net with the older jill right behind it and the kit at the other hole put the jill back down but no more at home so i took the nets off boxed the ferrets and moved on to the other set where the terriers had been marking it was a 3 holer so i thought i put the nets on and entered the kit it went straight into this set and a few seconds later a rabbit bolts into the net i dispatched that re-netted the hole about 40 seconds later i looked up into the field and i could see a rabbits head popping out of the ground about 5 ft into the field struggling to bolt because the kit had hold of it it managed to bolt and got away i couldnt have got over to net that hole as the dyke was to thick the kit went back down and came out my side so boxed it up took nets off and moved to another place i was really pleased with the kit this was its third trip out but it had never bolted anything before the last 2 times id took it out without the dogs and hadnt caught anything. i got to my other bit of permission and had a walk round with the dogs first i put a couple of rabbits up but they bolted into the field and my lurcher couldnt get through the dyke as it was to thick i only got one mark on a set in the middle of a wooded area its quite open in the wood so i took the terriers back to the car and got the ferrets i desided to just net 4 holes on this set and thought i would give my lurcher a chance on one so i put the kit in and about a min later a rabbit bolted with the lurcher right up its arse till it ran over some rocks and slowed the dog down it managed to get into some thick brambles and got away so i desided to call it a day as i had to pick my daughter up so packed up and headed for the car and home. hope you like the write up sorry no pics my cameras out of batterys atb 1 Quote Link to post
